A 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Panama this Friday, primarily affecting the central provinces of the country.
Despite the earthquake's intensity, authorities confirmed no fatalities, although material damage is significant, with more than 140 homes and 180 schools affected, according to the official tally.
To discuss this, Fernando González, governor of the province of Los Santos, and Néstor Luque, seismologist and director of the Institute of Geosciences of Panama, spoke with the program La Tarde on NTN24.
Luque commented that "the level of exposure is related to the location of the homes and their density in that area. Being a very remote and rural area, there were very few homes due to the low density."
