I used public transport (subway) in Rio, without any problems. At night of course, I chose Uber.

Great Rio de Janeiro tips and advise mte. I wish you were Mr Rio and Alagoas tour guide. I'm heading there in a few months. I cannot wait to return to Brasil.

As a female, I find the subway system in Rio extremely safe and convenient. There are entire carts only for women at all hours of the day and the metro or subway is reliable and takes you just about anywhere in the city, except Christ the Redeemer and Sugarloaf, but it still leaves you close enough for you to take an Uber or taxi ride. I would not recommend relying on Uber to move around the city due to congestion and you'll spend precious time sitting in traffic, as opposed to quickly getting to your destination underground. Also, Rio is not a city where you can just have your cell phone out like in most other cities, which is a major inconvenience if your primary mode of transportation is Uber and you have to constantly have your phone out to book and then wait for your Uber ride.

Never needed a car in Barra Da Tijuica , highly recommed it , Ubers are great value. You've been too long in LA buddy, the comparisons don't work

Thanks for the vid , i never been to Brazil , but i was wondering since there are a lot of mountains around Rio De janeiro is there a culture of hiking ? great view points ? . I'm more interested of the less populated area like the one you showed down south . How's the driving there ? have a good day.

Im a tourist who’s right now in rio and i dont fully agree with your video…
I dont consider Centro to be that great. It’s FULL of homeless people. Also, Centro and downtown are next to each other and i stayed in downtown for 2 nights and that was sketchy as fuck at night. I walked 20min to restaurants and back, i dont recommend anyone to do that in downtown.
The last week of my Brazil trip, im staying in Icarai and it’s great… I dont know why youre dissing it. It’s safe, no aggressive beach vendors, no beach scammers, everyone has their phones out on the beach and in the city… I even saw a girl put her phone in her little backpack, attached it to her tiny beach chair and went for a swim.
In your video, you didn’t even talk about Lapa. In fact, you included Lapa in your ‘best places to stay’ circles. To anyone who reads this: Lapa is the one neighbourhood where 90% of theft happens and where you get drugged with the Cinderella drug too (if this happens, you will not only lose your phone but ALL your money and ALL your belongings) —> be aware :)

The opinions of a middle class Brazilian playboy who clearly does not know Rio well and seems to just restate common tourist memes. Seems ignorant of much of Centro and it's adjoining neighbourhoods ( Saúde and Gamboa). Tells tourists to visit comunidades without any qualification. Dismisses pretty much all of Zona Norte save for Tijuca.
Take all of this with a huge grain of salt, it's ill-informed. Just another tourist. Unless this is dubbed I even question whether he is a carioca, the accent doesn't track.
