I first saw THE RULING CLASS with my now dear late friend, Janice Taylor, the English painter, quite by chance on tv in Brighton. We agree it was a phenomenal movie in all respects. Thanks for evoking this memory.  ~Dale Reynolds, American screenwriter and playwright in London

This is an awesome list of gems that beat repeat viewings. Straight Time is a powerful film with so many great performances; M. Emmet Walsh and Gary Busy offer fantastic support.

Back in the day, there was a channel called, "The Movie Channel". It got bought, I think by Showtime. They would show the same movie repeatedly one day, another the next.  So many of these were on that channel and I've seen many of them.  Love "The Wanderers".

What an incredible list, you just included my favorite ones from hard boiled 70s lore: "Alfredo Garcia," "The Phantom" and the American version of "The Wages of Fear"... hats off!

Thanks for including Scarecrow (which almost no one remembers but me & my BFF, from back when it first came out),  and Harold & Maude :) ...  and if you ever do one about the 1980's,  be sure to include REPO MAN, please - thank you

I've watched about half of these.  Every one of them that I saw was good.  I'll have to save this so I can check out the others.

Back in the day, I saw Wake in Fright (dumb title) under the title _Outback_.

Interesting selection.  I'd add If..._, _Hickey and Boggs_, and _Silent Running as significant, enthralling, and underappreciated

Forgoten Masterpiece, that I purchased just last year on DVD? "Sorcerer".

2nd Runner Up?  "Oh, Lucky Man".  I had the privilege of attending the Film Program in The School of Communication at UT-Austin, 1971 - 1973.  I was a member of CinemaTexas at that time.  My opportunity to see classic films, foreign films, independent films & edgy, limited commercial releases was almost limitless.

3rd Place?  The best film George Lucas ever diected:  "THX-1138" which I saw at The Paramount Theatre in downtown Austin upon its original release in 1971.  That theatre, although still vital, was converted to a live performance venue decades ago.  Things change.

Electra Glide in Blue was directed by the producer of Chicago. Band members in the cast:.Peter Cetera (bassist), Terry Kath (guitarist, and he sang the closing song), Lee Loughlane (trumpet) and Walter Parazaider (woodwinds).

Gee, thanks, JUST as I was thinking I might see if I can find A Boy and His Dog anywhere, you describe the twist ending.

I am proud to say that I have seen all, but 6, and loved all of the ones I've seen (several were in the theatre their release year). I am prone to THX1138 and The Wickerman.

Alfredo Garcia was brilliant. Oates was great. To me, the most terrifying scene was him clawing his way out of the grave.

If you do a similar list for sixties movies, please include the Magic Christian with Peter Sellers and Ringo Starr.  That movie cracked me up.

Jack Nicholson and Bruce Dern? YES!!

The King of Marvin Gardens is pure genius!

Ben Gasara starred in every single 70s film lol

All these Masterpieces can be found in the 50c bin.

Electra Glide is a masterpiece

Love Peter O'Toole as Jesus. It takes a dark turn but very funny throughout
