Why do these men believe that they have the right to Punish, Order, Demand, and Direct their wives???

I know these stories are written for drama, but god damn OP. She should have walked from the very first "why are you at your mothers funeral" or replied "Oh if that bothers, don't worry, I won't be at yours". Steven is trying way too hard for a man of his status.
