I am going to be honest here.  I dont know why cleave is converting to the Orthodox Church.  I do know that he had a job as an associate pastor, so I'm guessing he is giving up a sorce of income and i pray that God sustains him. I pray that God uses him wherever He sends him. When Charlie Kirk passed away, i told my wife that I didnt have 1% of my heart that believed that he wasnt saved just because he wasnt Catholic.  I am a Catholic who has been spiritually blessed by Orthodox  priests, protestants like Dr. Cooper and gavin ortlund, as well as my fellow Catholics.  May God's mercy and grace fill our theological shortcomings.

He was defending the Protestant cannon 8 days ago.

Very strange. Three weeks ago he said the thing keeping him from becoming a Confessional Lutheran was his Arminian view of election. Two weeks ago he had a conversation with an Anglican priest on intercession. He prayed to the Blessed Virgin and is on the path to becoming EO. I wish him the best, but this shift in theology is incredibly quick given how much he’s argued against EO positions so recently.

Your calm videos are always appreciated in what feels like a sea of rage bait.

Just yesterday I watched his interview with the LCMS pastor who left Orthodoxy. His disposition in that video makes this news incredibly surprising.

The camera is so good it feels like I’m converting into your room, pastor.

My wife and I just started adult confirmation in LCMS. Finding your channel kept us from crossing the Tyber and the Bosphorus.

It took me about 10 years to be convinced of Lutheranism.  I have no idea what Cleave was wrestling in the background, but I would have guessed he was going Lutheran.  I’m kinda surprised with how he portrayed himself to be this Protestant apologist.

Converting to Orthodoxy so soon after passionately and publicly defending things like Sola Scriptura is a very bad look.

Edit: Guys, taking exception to the term “converting” is unnecessary. The thumbnail of the video on Orthodox Ethos is literally “I’m Converting to Orthodoxy.”

I respect your integrity greatly, which in addition to the excellent, well researched content is why I keep coming back. I really appreciate everything you are doing with this channel Dr. Cooper and am very grateful for your work!

I would like to also second your call for people to take time when deciding where to go. It took me almost ten years of research, reading, and copious prayer to find Confessional Lutheranism made the most sense to me in championing scripture while deeply rooting itself in early church traditions and history. Don't take your journey lightly folks, and question every motive you have when you are thinking of finalky joining a new tradition and make sure it is because first and foremost you want to worship and grow close to God in the way you sincerely believe he wants you to. This is about finding and honoring Him, not validating yourselves. God bless you all.

It’s like orthobros and tradcats are shocked we don’t convert just because someone else did. That says a lot, especially about the reasons that made them convert.

Good for Cleave, God bless him, he will be more spiritually fulfilled now in the Orthodox church.
