I haven’t used social media (outside of YT) for almost 3 years. I don’t miss it at all

The removal of the scroll limit was a big cause of this.  I remember scrolling to the bottom of my feed on instagram and tumblr and that was it. I went outside or did something else. Removing the scroll limit for an endless feed is what led to this.

The only reason I ever got onto social media in the first place, WAS BEACUE IT USED TO FUN!!!!!!! Now it's lost it's purpose and meaning. It's no longer social anymore and we lost the meaning of having a personal social life, people don't even socialize in public anymore. People now think like an algorithm in real life and swipe left or right as if real life is just one big social media app...great video man :)

I hear a lot of people say “you don’t have to delete social media, just… leave it there, don’t use it.” Y’all don’t get how addicting it got at one point, I’m sure you all know that reflex you have, where you find yourself opening instagram to scroll even though you don’t feel like it, you’re only doing it because you’re not doing anything in the moment. It has genuinely made everyone so uncomfortable with boredom, the moment you’re left unoccupied, you grab your phone. People don’t have as much time through out the day anymore because we’re filling all the gaps in our day with scrolling, not to mention the unintentional 3 hour doomscrolling session. When I deleted all my socials, I’ve found that I have a lot more time in my day than before.
I agree with the fact that deleting social media doesn’t change the environment around you, I’m experiencing it firsthand everyday. It feels like everyone is a part of a world that I have no contact with.

Modern slavery doesn’t need chains.
It needs a salary, a debt, a few bills—and just enough hope to keep you going.

I quit everything but YouTube in 2012. I was going through a lot at that time & wanted to do bad things to myself. Quitting literally saved my life.

This is why it is so important for those who did experience the 'real world' to record and pass those memories down to others.

The problem is not only the social media but the people in general. They’re all incapable to have deep conversation and maintain long term engagement

Growing up as an Analogue child that transitioned to a Digital adult I can appreciate the gradual steady progression of Technology. I believe in time, humans “can”coexist and use such tools wisely. But it wont be an easy journey. There will be many pitfalls and a great deal of stumbling along the way.

Deleted my Snapchat and Instagram in like 2019 because one time I didn’t post for days maybe weeks and a girl said “wow you’re still alive?!” Mind you she had my number, we literally went to high school together so there were other means of communication but she choose to not show up to my party and kept tabs on my social media pages for some reason. Once she said that I was like this b!tch is never having access to me again. I love that I’ve been off the grid for years now but recently someone found me via fucking email if all places! I asked her how the hell she found me I am literally nowhere and she told me she used some website to look me up through my fucking email. You literally can’t be left alone.

i deleted IG a couple weeks ago because  all the videos it was showing me was so negative  i couldn’t deal anymore.

14:37 ChatGPT casually told me once that social media is the real life version of the matrix unprompted when I was asking about something else kind of related to the topic of social media.

It is up to the older generations to  teach the younger generations how to reclaim their attention through tactile, real-world agency: cook a meal from scratch, garden/grow something, to walk in nature, teach them what life was like prior to social media, to train deep presence, and be creative purely for the joy of creation. The chance of them achieving a healthier outlook per social media increases, to use the smartphone as a tool not, an anchor.

Here’s a real challenge…
Apart from taking important phone calls, put your phone away for 48 hours. Granted, have it where you can hear it ring if someone calls you, but take it out of your hand and place it on a table or nightstand.
Treat it like a landline for 48 hours and see what happens…

Glad you made this video because I was sitting here assuming that the reason I felt this way is because I've had no transportation and been isolated due to my medical conditions for a very long time... Turns out everybody else feels this way about social media too? Like we don't have real lives anymore? We need to fix this frfr

The majority of malls near where I live definitely are dead malls now... However, there is a mall that everybody is shocked that is still packed. Going there is like going back in time. That is the Cherry Hill Mall in Cherry Hill New Jersey. I recently took my kids there to get their pictures taken at JCPenney's, and the place was packed... Mind you this was midday Thursday. My kids had such a good day they asked if we could go back regularly. Just fyi, if you'd like to break the matrix for a minute there is a place.

Great video and analysis!! I've been disconnected from social media since my father passed. When you're sharing your feelings and vulnerabilities with friends and family online it becomes easier to determine when it no longer serves a purpose and is actually doing more harm than good. I'd recommend the book "stolen focus" if you're curious about why it's so hard for most of us to step away from social media

the big one for me is that deleting social media while the rest of the world doesnt just fills me with contempt over time. i will go out and get much more annoyed when others wont be present in the moment. so if that means we all are just sucked in to a screen all the time that's our new reality. what a life

I never had Instagram account and live quite comfortably without it.
