Great stuff re: practical rather than theoretical upstream nymphing …thanks for focusing on     this method and sharing your techniques/experience …when tuned in, I find it a really enjoyable way to fish…and I always sleep well after all the concentration required 😂…all the best George

Great video George. I was lucky enough to talk to you at the Irish Spring Angling Fair last Saturday (I'm the Spanish guy). Mastering the upstream nymph fishing is not easy but I have got very good tips of advise from your lesson in the video. To me the most difficult thing is to adjust the pace of retrieving to match the speed the current is dragging the nymph, instead of pulling the nymph. You may use the tip of the line as a reference but the speed of the water at the surface is different from the speed at the height the nymph is moving.

Nice to see someone not flogging a brand ! Just good fishing tips.

Oliver Edwards used a Moser minicon to attach his leader to the fly line. The minicon served as a mini strike indicator when fishing nymphs upstream. Would he periodically treat the mincon with floatant...probably.

Iv been waiting for this video  for two years

Great video and a great bit of info on how to fish the upstream nymph .Had some good fishing on the Liffey using this method .Love the no nonsense approach to your fishing straight  to the point and great results .

Great to see ya again George. Always good information

George  your a god , keep it real !!

You're a legend, sir. May the road rise up to meet you, may the wind be always at your back, and may you be in Heaven half an hour before the devil knows you're dead!

Thanks George, great info, just what I was looking for 👍

Hey George I appreciate you sharing your knowledge! It really helps less experienced anglers such as myself learn new techniques. I will try applying some of this advice fishing the Dodder next chance I get!

Excellent video very educational Really enjoyed it Would never have thought to grease the line but I understand why Thank you for taking the time to make the video and sharing with us

Excellent advice and demo. :-)

A joy to watch and learn from, uk

Thanks for making this.

Going out this week to give it a go

Great video

It's the size 22 ,drop to 20 and see how you get on.excellent vid by the way, very informative....

Great method, agree with all points - not a fashionable method, only a handful of you tube anglers doing this - myself, a Scottish guy (Wildfisher) and a few others. I find it much more satisfying than euro nymphing.
as you say, great for a rapid change to dry fly or upstream wet without carting 2 rods along. You can get away with a bit of drag too.  I just watch the line tip. 👍

Great tutorial George. Been using the same method for about the same time, only scaled down leader/tippet wise for the much smaller rivers I fish up North. 7 ft 3 weight, 6 ft tapered leader, 3 ft tippet. My eyesight for threading flies limits me though, so choppy water, bigger flies only these days.  It's a great buzz to catch without the indicator all the same :)

Great vid by a true master 👌
