Does anybody else think that Maddie interviewing her 84 or 86 year old grandmother (one on one) would make such an interesting video??

Ashley and Maddie's complete opposite expressions at 43:54 kills me :D

One of the best WHGS episodes ever, coming from someone who’s listened to all of them. Thank you for being so vulnerable and going so deep, loved this guest and the mix of realness and comedy. Well done

It's not that our talking about being queer all the time is what's upsetting to the straights, it's that we are challenging how "normal" is defined in mainstream culture. People talk about their straight lives all the time, but that's normal convo to them. It's similar to how people talking about race becomes annoying to some white people because white privilege is the norm, and they don't want that challenged.

Is this related to homophobia, transphobia, and racism? Yes....yes it is.

Also, auto-correct is trying to tell me transphobia is not a word, which is transphobic as f**k.

That beginning conversation about queer labels was so interesting to me. My mom is a boomer (love her with all my heart), and when I came out as bisexual (before discovering "pansexual"), she raged about how she had gay friends and is all for the gays but there's no such thing as bi and that I didn't act gay as a child so I couldn't be gay now and I needed to get over it.

It's been over a decade since that conversation, but I appreciate that the further the years have moved, the more grey area is being allowed to exist. And especially speaking as an anthropologist, human beings have way more flexible sexuality than our society allows us to believe. The very idea of "homosexuality" and "heterosexuality" was designed and perpetuated by the Western Christian world; but prior to that, same sex relations were normal practice throughout the entirety of human history all around the world. This is something that is pretty well documented, and I recommend anyone interested to look further into it because it's absolutely fascinating.

But my point is that sexuality - as with any other human experience - is nothing but a construct. Some of us lean way more towards one way or another on the attraction "spectrum," but at the end of the day the conceptualization of our sexuality is malleable because it is constructed. I don't mean that "if you're gay then maybe you could just change and be straight" lol that's not what I'm saying. Your attraction is your attraction, but it doesn't mean that you unequivocally equate this fixed label that was designed by a world outside of yourself. At the end of the day, labels are super helpful in designing your identity and finding your community; but they are not necessary to validate who you are and how you live.

Some people from the older generation criticize the younger generation because "everyone is queer" and they're being negatively influenced; but in reality they are just growing up in an environment where sexuality is no longer this rigid thing where you have to pick sides, and they have the room to explore facets of themselves and of the human experience that are hidden by the binary construct. They're free to explore their sexuality as an expression of who they are in relation to their sexual nature and what they choose to do with that.

Yay to Maddie staying on as co-host!  You have had such great people as your cancel coaches :)

Sebene is so calming, inspiring and intriguing.  Thank you for introducing me to her.

sebene talking about her marriage really reminded me of my parents. they were never married, but were in a serious relationship for a long time. and then when i was about 9 (i think???) they split up. but unlike so many of those splits where it ruins the relationship completely and traumatizes the kids - the kind i saw happen with many of my friends’s parents -, they stayed very good friends and co-parented wonderfully for me and my sister’s whole childhoods, and i’m eternally grateful to them for that. both of them are amazing and i’m really lucky to have been raised by them.

Maddie yes! I started getting teary eyed when you said you’ll stay permanently you bring so much to the podcast and I’m so happy you’re staying!

I’m really exited that Maddie the new permanent cohost, love her energy sm and I’m so happy that they decided to stay!

The conversation between three generations  of people about gender identity and sexuality was so thoughtful: everyone needs to hear this! ❤🧡💛💚💙💜

Yay!!! So so happy Maddie is cohosting permanently! They are an absolute joy

I love this episode! Love the woo, love Maddie staying, love the diversity of life experience! Sexuality and spirituality are not separate and this episode handles that intersection of realities beautifully! Wonderfully refreshing!

Awwww when Ashley died at the end when Sebene complimented her 🥹

Also this episode was extremely close to home and I did not expect it lol but was super validating. I also went through cancer, surgeries that left me with scars and with no thyroid, months of my body just trying to figure itself out and adjust to medications and stuff; and exiting a year-long sexless relationship because I wasn't a virgin and therefore not good enough for my partner. These past few months I've just been learning to love myself, take care of myself, and "reclaim my sexuality." NEVER have felt this way but at some point it became a survival need. And now I'm able to comfortably say that I'm "dating myself," without it feeling gross or awkward or stupid or like I don't deserve it. It's absolutely incredible, but it's also a lot of work and dedication and therapy lol.

But so thank you so much for the vulnerability that everybody on this podcast shared and for touching on this topic, it was just incredible to listen to. <3

Does Maddie understand that we are in love with her?? My queen fr

So happy Maddie is staying 👏🏼 great episode ❤

I really loved the perspective on this episode! thank you for always really putting in the work to have different perspectives and voices and people on the podcast

I’m so glad Madi is the official new co-host. I was hoping she would be.

When you guys turned to each other it was like we're having a baby energy 😄

This one is definitely one of my favorites. I think a lot of people believe that attraction stays very steady throughout life, but it's not really like that. It could be extremely hot and intense at the beginning, but having room for attraction to change is the important part. Thanks for this episode.
