C.O.P.S. was a 1 season syndicated animated series based on a toyline called COPS n' Crooks and then sometimes also just known as COPS.

Hasbro bet big, bringing in a lot of talent to work on what they saw as a possible successor to GI Joe. But that didn't really work out.

But COPS still has it's place in history with a toyline revival happening recently.

I don’t care if Buttons McBoomBoom has a goofy name. Having machine guns in your chest is badass.

Child me was blown away by Mace and Nightshades relationship. A hero and a villain genuinely caring about each other while their respective sides pulled them apart. Way better than it needed to be.

"One season of sixty-five episodes"
Good Lord, you'd never see that many in one go these days

I was asking myself, "How could C.O.P.S. run afoul of Hasbro's diversity standards? The show had a Black lead and a multicultural cast." I should have realized 80s Hasbro was talking about diversification of product. 😅

A banger of a theme song!

My mom loves to tell the story about the time the neighbor called the cops to our street because some strange man was wandering around everyone's backyards. She said to me, "Come outside and look at all the police cars!" And I told her, "I can't mom, I'm watching C.O.P.S!"

Surprisingly, the COPS and Crooks teamed up in one episode to take down a drug dealer.

This is one of those underrated classics that got lost between the action-figure era 80s and the TMNT and Power Ranger dominated 90s.

I still get a kick how "Big Boss" drew the line at dealing drugs. Gotta love the late 80s!

Laurence Fishburne should play Bulletproof in a live action remake.

I really wish this show had taken off, the lore had a lot of potential

C.O.P.S. started airing around the time I began to notice girls. I had a crush on Mainframe and was pretty upset that there was no figure of her.

“You race them against your friends in Hasbro-branded Record Breakers race tracks. The more track you have, the more track you have” is up there with Defunctland’s Kevin Perjurer describing Disney’s California Adventure as “a California-themed theme park in the already California-themed California.”

True (embarrassing) story. I was busted trying to lift a Cop's figure in my twenties when I was into shoplifting. I didn't do time for it but I did have to do restitution. The irony of stealing a COPS figure.

One of my favorite cartoons. Helped that I was huga fan of Robocop as a kid, so BP Vess' story was an awesome parallel. Plus he was an African American police chief cyborg, thats super cool as a black kid!

Bulletproof: "Be on the lookout for Big Boy and his goons. They stole a large supply of Magic Spoon Cereal."

C.O.P.S. had one of the best opening sequences and theme songs of the 80s, on par even with Thundercats. Buttons McBoomBoom was my favourite crook because he hated bugs so much that he would unload entire clips of ammunition at a single butterfly. Now that's a level of contempt to which we should all aspire.

Dan points at camera. Me, in tears: "It was meeee. It was always JUST MEEEE!"

The kids shouting "Everybody got your guns?" "Yeah!" in the commercial needs to be a meme.

When I was in elementary school in late 1980’s, I would run home in anticipation of watching this show on WGN only the be bitterly disappointed when a CHICAGO CUBS GAME was on. To this day seeing the Cubs lose brings a smile to my face.

One of my favorites and have been rewatching it on Tubi. Despite being "in the future", such a product of it's time, as a latchkey kid, I got a huge kick out of 1 episode where Longarm gets his son a birthday gift(an evil toy robot), then both parents have to leave the boy alone in their apartment and when he's leaving the police officer asks his son, "what do we do?", to which the son replies, "Don't answer the door!" So classic, hey kids, it's perfectly acceptable to be left alone when you're like 10, even when your dad is an actual cop!

I also love the style of the city and animation, like art deco 30s cop drama meets future cyberpunk.
