I know the show and the fandom decided to dump on John in later seasons, but I think John told Sam to stay gone for Sam’s sake. If Sam left hunting, John wanted Sam to really leave hunting and go have a normal, happy life with a family without being dragged back into hunting again and again. I still hold onto early seasons John who was dealing with an untenable situation and doing the best he could.

Damn you for putting the Bloody Mary clips in! That was the scariest freaking episode of the whole show, and I wanna forget it exists 😂😅🙈

Seriously though.. That was on a decent horror movie level, and I almost didn't continue watching after that episode because I didn't realise what level of spooky the show was gonna be at before I started it. I'm one of the people that's kinda glad it mellowed down a bit after the first season, because I'm a wimp who lives alone and gets paranoid when shit gets too scary and gory. Especially when it involved mirrors... I fucking hate mirrors... 😅
It's been like a year and a half since I watched it, and I can still get a bit jumpy if I pass a mirror in the dark, and I have to remind myself that 1: It's not real, and 2: Even if it was, I haven't said the phrase so there's no danger anyways.
But then my ADHD brain starts thinking it, and I have to interrupt it and tell myself that I didnt think it three times, and I didn't say it out loud 😂
Sooooo, yeah.. Absolutely in live with the show and everything around it. But when I re-watch it, which I 100% will do, I'm probably gonna skip that particular episode, because one time was enough 😂
