2:35 beat dropped so hard, it glitched the mainframe 😂

that camera timing with the drop hahahah

If you listen at halfspeed and tap out 16ths, it's easier to pick up on what's happening.
It's just a displacement of single 16th, but only on the drums.
While the rest of the vocals and instrumentation still lines up with the downbeat on the 9th/16th, II creates that "stumbling" feeling in the second measure of the phrase by accenting on the 10th.
It's exaggerated by adding the crash with it. He lands a kick on the 9, and if he lined the crash up with THAT, it wouldn't sound as trippy.
But it sounds "off" because II is just delaying what we would expect to hear as the downbeat to be 1/16th later than the rest of the instrumentation.
All still 4/4 though 🤯

I love seeing your brain crunch on that syncopated drum part and decompose what happens to our brains for us non-drummers. Part of what makes watching reactions so fun is that everyone experiences it so differently. Love your perspective and honest reactions. ♥️

Perfect exemple of what genre is Sleep Token. All of them.

It feels like II basically creates a soundscape that ties in to the rest of the song rather than making a groove, so to speak. There appears to be no backbeat at all with his tracks. I love it. I'm IN love with it. The style kind of defines their sound. He plays the drums like how a lead plays guitar. His efforts track with the rest of the band rather than setting a foundation like other drummers do.

II's syncopation abilities are approaching Neil Peart level.

Love seeing reactors who “get” the syncopation switch up on the beat 🙏

I can’t tell you how happy I am to see a fellow drummer’s brain break with his beat

I'm so glad you made the ODST connection there — Vessel is def a gamer and there's clips around of him playing bits of the Halo OST music on piano at shows!

the deliberate off beat, is in rhythm to the 4's just holding on a second. mad skill

I swear I thought the camera crash on the drop was an intended effect the first 3 seconds lol

When II comes on with his drums the off beat syncopated 16th noted snare makes much more sense and gives you a kinda of comfort in that section. It takes a few listens but damn, that groove is sick.

Thats just II throwing something in to give yall drummers a challenge since everyone loves to do drum covers we all love seeing

Their jazz influence is showing in the syncopation and sax. ❤🔥⚔️

That drum fill on "lockstep with the universe" is sooooo satisfying.

Gabi rose from bilmuri who also has her own band was playing the saxophone

He’s moving the 1 (snare) from the 1 to like 9/16 or something lol Also, it only happens one time on the second bar of a four bar pattern. This is just diabolical flexing by II.

It's syncopated af lol I love it. It grows on you the more you listen. They're the masters of rhythm switch ups with all the inspo from other genres. Its so intriguing hearing their genius every time 🤘🏻🤌🏻✨️

The syncopation is next level in this track
