Why do poker players stay stuck at low and mid stakes?
It is rarely because they do not care. Many are studying, grinding, watching content, reviewing hands, and putting real hours into the game. The problem is that effort alone does not guarantee progress if the work is overcomplicated, poorly directed, or impossible to execute under pressure.
In this conversation, I am joined by Martin Kanåker and Daniel Dayan to talk about the patterns we see in players who are trying to move from low and mid stakes towards higher stakes. We discuss why copying solver outputs can create more confusion than clarity, why simplification is often a professional skill, and why more information is not always the same as better learning.
We also look at the mindset side of moving up: self-awareness, identity, delayed gratification, discomfort, focus, and professionalism. Poker has changed. If you want to progress now, you need more than theory. You need structure, emotional control, strong routines, and the ability to bring your best game into real playing conditions.
Towards the end of the conversation, we also talk about the Hybrid Mindset & Strategy Program we have built for players who want to take poker more seriously and work towards comfortably operating at NL500 and NL1K.
If nothing changed in how you study, play, and prepare, where do you think you would be twelve months from now?
