When you have a sibling like this, it takes over the entire family. There is no peace when your parents continue to allow that sibling to stay in the same home.

Parents have a hard time letting go of a mentally ill child. To them he’s still their baby.

It’s even more devastating that the other 2 children had to have this dangerous person in their lives for so long. That’s a mistake the parents made , that compound the problem. Allowing a psychopath to completely destroy all of those lives.

Many psychopaths become involved with drugs because of their psychopathy. They're chronically bored because of their lack of positive emotions.

I realized that my brother was not right when I was 2 yrs old & he was 1. At 26, he murdered my parents after using drugs and alcohol since he was 9. My dad knew he wasn't right. My father heard me when I warned him. My mother wouldn't listen until it was too late. Everything you said in this video is accurate. I had to identify their bodies. He was found "not guilty by reason of insanity", was allowed to inherit from them, and spent 13 years in a high security mental hospital. My State Senator Daniel Boatwright wrote a bill to end inheritance being given to someone with an NGI judgment in California. He has had my lifelong gratitude. Losing my mom & dad changed the trajectory of my life forever, and the lives of many others.

Many people think you can cure everything with "love". My brother is a psychopath and I had to cut ties with him to protect myself. So did my other siblings and my parents. And people try to guilt-trip us - especally our parents - for not helping him. Psychopathy is not cureable. Psychopaths will NEVER have empathy. You could do everything for them and they could still kill you the next day and don't give a shit. I always tell these delusional "love and light" people who criticize us that they should go to my brother and try to cure him.

I had a brother who was an addict. The best thing to happen to him was going to prison. It kept my parents safe.

I’m a retired psychiatric social worker and I was deeply disturbed with Rob Reiner’s minimization of Nick’s substance abuse and untreated mental health issues. I picked up in the joint interviews I saw of Nick and Rob as Rob way overcompensating for his son’s detachment. When Rob said he should’ve listened to himself instead of therapists and psychiatrists, I knew they were in too deep. I’m making observations and I’m not diagnosing Nick either, but I see serious ASPD, Dark Triad Machiavellian features as well as narcissism. He had so much pent up rage toward his father for whom he blamed for his woes. However, The family was so worn down by his endless demands that they attempted to placate him and failed to see how he was manipulating them. It’s sad it cost them hir life.

parents never want to admit their kid is too damaged to be fixed. nick was lost and nobody can fix him.

I'm a retired clinical social worker. When I heard that Rob believed he should have been listening to his son more than professionals , I knew that it had been only a matter of time. I feel for the professionals who are grieving today, after warning them over and over.

His dead eyes are incredibly frightening. The fact that Nick destroyed the entire guest house that he lived in on more than one occasion illustrates how he was allowed to do anything that he wanted to.

Everyone is talking about his dead eyes, but what stands out to me in nearly every pic is the constant sneer of contempt that shows in the mouth and mid face.
To me he has the same permanent contemptuous sneer as Kanye West.
Crazy+asshole is a scary combination that can never be reasoned with.

“Maybe they will die in a ditch” is what the vast majority of parents cannot accept, so they continue to enable and have their own lives destroyed in the process.

I've been stuck with my nephew, now 26, the past eight years. He hasn't worked at all in that time, and has trashed the upstairs since my dad passed four years ago. He hasn't held a conversation with me the past 2 years, started showing signs of aggression towards me about five years ago.Something unheard of when he was a child and teen. His parents don't want to take any responsibility for him, as my sister is a clear overt narcissist.
I feel like this story is a wake up call, and it's time to put mum in a nursing home and me to move on and live my own dreams again, like I should've the past half dozen years.

I have a schizophrenic son that is a psychopath and dangerous too. His life goal is to convince a hit man to murder me. He wrote a 270k page book about me over 13 years explaining to others why I deserve to die. He doxed me and posted it and the book about why I should die, on Reddit. The moderator, in 2025, removed his “thesis” and called to warn me. Back in the day, in 2011, my now x did nothing when our son was a danger to me and I ended up the one who left. Then the same son lied about me and I lost custody of the 3 youngest children. I believe our son lives in a group home now. I can see plain as day you are right in your analysis.
