I really feel Nick is sincere when he talks about the roast, when he said "by writing jokes" in response to Adam saying he liked doing it because he enjoyed being mean, and he said that "I just like being part of a comedy show" and I think that showed in the way he played into the mustache and herpes joke, and his victory speech being a self-deprecating depression punchline. You can tell that Jamie wants the social win, and Mullen wants the laugh, regardless of whose expense it's at.
