The 2026 mega-exhibition, "The British Museum Exhibition," features a highly anticipated "miraculous masterpiece" by Kitagawa Utamaro.
The delicate brushwork, the expressions conveying emotions with just a few lines, and the vibrant kimono patterns are endlessly captivating. However, this work hides a "part you absolutely must see" that goes beyond mere aesthetics.
This time, while appreciating the techniques of Kitagawa Utamaro, the emperor of beautiful women paintings, we will delve into the little-known charms of this masterpiece, revived in the modern era after many years and extensive restoration, from the unique perspective of a scroll painting specialist. Enjoy these highlights, which you might overlook if you view the exhibition without prior knowledge, as a delightful addition to your viewing experience.
