The scene modes seem like a nice addition, I usually let friends and family use my camera at events and they never take a good photo

Without a viewfinder it might as well not even exist for me.

This camera release is great news for the OM System Pen.

No evf = no sale from me.

It might be a really good back up camera for the Z5II or use for taking still lifes of food where I usually use the screen anyway.

The lack of a tilt screen is really frustrating be it in the Nikon Zf and now the Z5IIC.

What about the price?

Try Sigma lenses for Sony. Sigma 35mm 1.4 II, Sigma 50mm 1.2. Very organic and sharp.

I have the zf and yes it is big but full frame is big, If you want a portable camera, then go for Fuji and a fast 1.4. I use mine with techart adaptor and some vintage lenses, there is when zf makes sense. The z5iic is I think a cheaper versión of the zr for people that don't want that expensive sensor.

No viewfinder, no AF joystick and poor screen quality. And almost no weight savings. I don't really see the appeal.

I think the Z5IIC IS is a good camera if you don’t have a preference for the EVF, after all it is based off the Z5II. I prefer a view finder and I have a Z5 which I’m selling and am upgrading to the Z5II. Tudor, I can see your point and especially if you do street photography . The ZF appeals to me for its nostalgia, but the size and weight are too much.

I just picked up a Lumix S9 recently but mainly for video. But wow does the Z5iic check a lot of boxes! But it's too heavy (like all Nikons it seems) and the screen needed to be much better for a camera with no EVF. After comparing video features (why I bought the S9) I'm sticking with the S9 for it's color science and IBIS. I know that a lot of people say the E-shutter only is not good under artificial light but if you set it up properly it is not an issue.

It’s funny to get worked up over a new camera as if we’re obligated to buy it. The reason screens like the Zf’s exist isn’t just so you can close them.

Thank you for this review. I live Nikon zf but have same issue as you, it never comes out with me. I will sell mine and wait for the Nikon with a tilt screen. If Z8 had mechanical shutter it would be perfect. Leica Q3 and Fuji X100 series until then. There will always be another Nikon camera released. Keep up the good work.

Great pitch here, and I agree 200%. I truly love my Zf while I am actually taking pictures but I hate carrying it: weight, extremely slippery "grip", EVF hump always in the way when you slide it in and out of bags, etc. All too often it stays home (like yours). I will keep that Zf for the great looks and tactile experience but I will most probably pre-order the Z5IIC to become my travel/street/social/hiking camera. I can easily live without an EVF. Also, I am fully invested in Nikon and Voigtlander Z mount lenses anyway, and happy with those, so not tempted at all by the camera offerings of other brands. The only alternative for me could have been the Nikon ZR and its big bright back screen, but it is in a whole other price bracket and the controls layout is too video-centric for me. And it has no real integrated grip. After 3 years with the Zf, I really want a good integrated grip... 😊

no viewfinder is for pocket cameras (ricoh GR) and video cameras, and maybe a high end landscape camera (Hasselblad). This one is a non starter for me.

Have you tried the Nikon Zfc.
