Actor Shinji Yamashita attended a press conference for the "School Wars Reunion 2019" special program, held in Tokyo on August 24th, to celebrate the release of the Paravi video streaming service's "Paravi Streaming & DVD Box Set." Held alongside fellow cast members Yuki Matsumura (who plays Daisuke Oki), Kazue Ito (who plays Keiko Tomita), and Miki Asakura (who sang the theme song "Hero").
Yamashita, who played teacher Kenji Takizawa in the classic teen drama "School Wars: The Seven-Year War of the Crybaby Teacher," which aired on TBS in 1984, described the show as "a work of art in a sense." He added, "At the time, I never imagined it would become so popular. It has become a beloved series even in the Reiwa era. I was lucky to be able to appear in School Wars. Without it, I wouldn't be where I am today. I'm so grateful."
Matsumura said, "Rugby is a sport that anyone can play, so it has universal appeal. And once the game is over, it's 'no side.' I think that's what attracted me to it." He continued, "I appeared in episode 7, so the atmosphere on set was incredible. I used to commute to the set by train, and the day after it aired, students were talking about School Wars on the train." He spoke of the excitement at the time. The special program was live streamed on August 24th, which is Rugby Day, to commemorate the release of all episodes of the series on Paravi from September 1st and the DVD box set on September 4th.
