George Carlin wasn't just a comedian but he was a philosopher, actor, author and social critic and a very smart man. Born and raised as a New Yorker, and was known for his black comedy and reflections on politics, English language, psychology, religion and various taboo subjects. He and his "7 dirty words" comedy skit(which was a pretty funny and relatable one and recommended) were central to the 1978 U.S. Supreme court case F.C.C. v Pacifica Foundation, in which a 5-4 decision affirmed the government's power to regulate incident material on the public airwaves. And widely regarded as one of the most important and influential American stand-up comics OF ALL TIME, and not to mention he dubbed by the newspaper to be "the Dean of Counterculture comedians". The guy said a lot of facts and yet was funny about it at the same time, told it like it is and wasn't afraid to speak his own mind and was a true comedic legend.
I was raised Christian and this video ultimately was the thing that turned me into an atheist. It still took a couple of years after, but it was the really the first time I heard someone criticizing religion. He pointed out things that I secretly thought sounded silly or paradoxical but never said out loud. You can still believe all the good things in religion (love, helping the less fortunate, etc.) but you don’t have to believe in an adult version of Santa Claus, know what I mean?
I abandoned religion pretty early in life. I look at Kharma in the classical manner, where it's more of an intrinsic feeling. Do good and feel good. Do bad and feel bad. Obviously it doesn't work for everyone, but I think most of us have those intrinsic values instinctively. I can appreciate mythology/religion for its literary value, but that's about it. 😉
“We are each our own devil, and we make this world our hell.” - Oscar Wilde. As for Carlin, he was far and away the greatest standup comedian of all time.
I was so certain you were from southern Europe, Spain or Portugal most likely that it took way too many relistens to hear that you said Indonesia. Both your accent and your look screams spanish to me so my brain was not working properly for a moment there. :) Great reaction I must say. You had all the "right" thoughts regarding the points he was making. If you listen to him and understand what he says, it's not just comedy. It's very funny, but it should also kickstart your brain.
I am not going to talk much about George Carlin... He was a philosopher, a prophet, in the good sense of the word... He was a brave and wise man... I have watched reactions to his Videos by dozens of people from many countries... Based on that, I want to talk about you, Veenee Mass... This video must be the most clever, intelligent reaction to any of Carlin´s routines... You just have the exactly amount of clever, relevant comments to what Carlin is saying... Also, and thanks for that, you don´t interfere with it... And as a person, you are a delightful, graceful person, with a huge personalitity and the charm of a real, confident, very femenine woman... My respect, dear girl... Congratulations!
Ironically George Carlin went to Catholic School as a kid. It wasn’t your typical Catholic School with corporal punishment or anything like that. It was an experimental Catholic School. Boys and Girls had classes together, you could disagree with teachers and have a discussion about about your view on whatever the teacher was talking about. So going to the experimental Catholic School gave George Carlin the tools to reject religion
You got that right. His Love is so great that he give us "Free Will". Freedom to choose how you're gonna experiece Life, Learn from it, to repeat all over again till u get it right or to ascsend to next level of conciousness. Set up everything with a governing Universal Law of Nature / Karmic Law. Religion is a control system invented by a group of wise guys the same people who set up different form of goverment, divide us by Race, belief, Religion, Status, Skin Color and list goes on and on.
Brave one, both thumbs up for you. I understand what you mean after a certain mayor from a certain city being prosecuted and jailed for "blasphemy" comment few years ago, now I just tend to keep Religious to myself.
Cognitive Dissonance is what most people feels after watching/reacting to George's take on religion. Watch the way those people laugh in guilt n confusion while/after watching George's vid. 🤩☺️ - Joe Bless George!
