“One child killing their parents is a bad seed. Two children killing their parents is a bad family” so true.

These boys went through years and years of horrific sexual and mental abuse by their own father, and their mother did nothing to protect them - you can't treat people this way and not expect outcomes like this.

What’s really sad is: many people did NOT believe the brothers when it happened.
They were seen as sociopathic and sadistic. I’m glad you’re bringing their struggle to light.

My husband and I recently watched a documentary about this case. We're both in our mid 40's and remember what it was like when this trial was going on. The abuse they described became comedic fodder for every late night host, comedian, and even SNL. It was absolutely disgusting and shortly after the first trial I became a sexual assault survivor. Without a doubt the treatment of these brothers was one of the things that directly influenced my decision to not report my rape. I know I'm not alone too. Rape/sexual abuse culture is real and devastating.

I believed them then and I believe them now. Set them free.

I always believed them. It’s disgusting they let rapists, abusers and pedos walk free ALL the time but threw these boys in prison, never giving them any help or therapy.

Just because families have money doesn't mean the parents can't be abusers. Just like your recent read on Jonbenet about her parents, especially the father.

you can clearly see the suffering in their body language. of course killing their parents wasn't fun - it was terribly tragic on top of all the horrible abuse they had gone thru.

I think it’s messed up that the judge wouldn’t allow the sexual abuse testimonies in their second trial. I don’t understand why any evidence or testimonies are ever not admitted. I think the jurors need ALL the evidence to reach a fair verdict

This case is really sad, because it shows the inadequate system of helping children who are abused.  Although clearly what they did was unacceptable, circumstances should have dictated means of rehabilitation with potential for parole assuming they are fit to be released.  Thanks for sharing.

Obviously murder isn’t okay regardless, but just the idea of opening up about your trauma to an entire courtroom and the world at large watching this case, and the jury shutting them down saying “nah you weren’t assaulted, it was about the inheritance money” hurts my soul. It takes a lot to come forward, especially if you aren’t ready to. They were basically told in front of the entire world that their pain was invalid. I can’t even imagine.

When he starts to cry/show more intense emotion, you can also see his nose and the top portion of his cheek bone area start to become pink/red. This color change can be a good indicator of genuine emotion as well (and something that can be hard to control unless you go through cognitive processing therapy). When a person experiences anxiety, stress, anger, embarrassment, etc., the body, as part of its fight-or-flight response, will start to release chemicals such as epinephrine/adrenaline. This can cause dilation of the capillaries in the face (vasodilation), and thus, more blood enters those areas of the face.

The way this case has blown up over the past 6 months or so is so great to see that justice to the brothers may finally be on the horizon. 20 years is long enough. They’ve served their time.

Man, people don’t believe that men can experience SA in 2021, let alone 30 years ago. It’s so upsetting hearing how this case ended up when you can obviously tell they are visibly in pain recounting what they went through.

Logan... I just wanted to say thank you. As a survivor of SA, I really am grateful that you silenced the details of this case. It's also very interesting as an analysis tool. I just wanted to thank you for always being so mindful and caring about your audience.

I feel so much sadness for two men having to explain SA in a time in history that it would be so judged and misunderstood... the victim shaming is horrendous in these cases.

I feel so bad for them. So their horrible parents abused them all their lives, they made those boys go through hell and worst and then once the boys kill their attackers and abusers IN ORDER TO SURVIVE, the legal system sentences them....where was the legal system and the justice when they were being abused and raped???

The 80s and 90s were so different in the way sexual abuse and mental illness were treated. I remember my mom taking me to the doctor when I was younger because she was concerned and explaining how sometimes I’d get so nervous that It would be hard for me to breath and that I’d complain my chest and throat would feel tight, sometimes I’d even faint... and the doctor looked at me and then at my mom and told her that I was throwing a tantrum. My mom told her a few things and we never went back to that doctor because clearly she was an idiot. As an adult I know now it was that even as a child I suffered from anxiety and panic attacks.

That’s how bad it was back thing. And god forbid you were a child suffering from stress or anything mental health related... it was always the same excuse. “You’re a kid what is there to be stressed/depressed about” if only mental illness was so straight forward.

Now imagine, it’s always been difficult for women to come forward with their sexual assault cases, but these two young boys who everyone thinks have it all, who hold their father and family on this unrealistic pedestal, claim that their father did the things he did to them and their mother was an enabler who didn’t protect her kids but instead prioritized the perfect image of her family. These two young victims quickly became pariahs and were condemned.

Everyone failed these boys.

I remember when it happened.  I think that at that time people just couldn't comprehend child abuse and particularly of boys/men.  I think it resulted in a harsher sentence than they would have had in current times.  People just thought rich people didn't have problems and felt more comfortable just calling it a crime based on greed.

Bailey Sarian did a video on a farmer that was imprisoned for killing his wife.  She said the aired the entire trial.  I'd LOVE to see you do a body language video for at least the farmer/husband or even better, all of the ppl that took the stand.

Edit: thx for the support on this request everyone. I'm the farmer that had the tragic accident bon our farm over that horrible snow storm in the south back in Feb. It all just hits so close to home for me right now.
