Bro I was sitting in the checkmat bleachers at worlds, when adam hit that bfly sweep in the finals and they went absolutely bananas it was sick

Adam's passing is very underrated imo

I’ve gotten to train with Adam quite a bit at Checkmat HQ. His grips are laser sharp and always exactly what he wants. You also never feel like you have any kind of base at any time.

But the one thing I noticed is that you absolutely CANNOT gain control of or smash his legs. He keeps the structure of his guard no matter what. It’s incredible.

im basically a 160lbs build of adam, skinny, long limbs, this butterfly guard works wonders and new players just overlook it because its old.

Its weird because butterfly guard is in my opinion better suited for shorter stocky players but Adam uses it so effortlessly.

One of the best videos I have watched on YT. Thanks for putting this together!

This video shouldn't be free. I'm imagining the time you spent watching his fights and how many times you rewinded the videos, and paused and 0.5x etc etc... Besides all of that, The mental effort to identify the patterns and then put all this information in a script organized and with a pedagogical language. You are really good explainer. Thank you!

Dag… this is a powerful concept. Ever since watching this video I’m hitting waaayyy more butterfly sweeps. Shrimping for angles…. Where else are you useful?

Thank you for this video it was excellent. I noticed things from this video I haven’t noticed from Adam’s actual instructionals on bjj fanstics

This breakdown is amazing 👌

Recently been going into a bit of a self study deep dive into butterfly
So it's nice to have confirmation that I've been on the right track with the details
But then also, feel like the rest of the deep dive has been made much easier for me now! 👊

5 year black belt here. Took Adam's seminar as a brown belt and have been playing butterfly ever since.

You've done a fantastic analysis here, Shawn. I've learned a lot. Thank you.

Way to articulate Adam’s game. Good job Shawn. Where is your school located?

This was an amazing video with great video references for each technique. I took a seminar from Adam a week ago and we went through every technique you mentioned here, almost in order. Its like you were at the seminar! The only thing you didn't mention was his clamp guard and transition to triangle. Fantastic work!
