One repair quickly turned into the ultimate "while you're in there" service on Project Phoenix.
In this episode we finally tackle the leaking oil pan gasket on my fire-damaged 2015 BMW 535i (N55), but while the subframe is out it only makes sense to replace everything that's easily accessible.
During this repair we replace:
✅ Oil pan gasket
✅ Hydraulic engine mounts
✅ Powerflex thrust arm bushings
✅ Serpentine belt
✅ Belt tensioner
✅ Idler pulley
✅ Fresh Liqui Moly oil
Along the way I also show several specialty tools, a few tricks that make the job easier, and why replacing worn engine mounts before they actually leak can save hundreds of dollars in future labor.
We also discover BMW's less-than-stellar belt routing around the A/C lines, install Powerflex polyurethane bushings, and finish the job with fresh oil and proper engine priming before first startup.
Project Phoenix keeps getting closer to becoming the BMW it should have been before the engine fire.
If you're tackling an N55 oil pan gasket, this video should save you a lot of frustration.
Project Phoenix is finally rising from the ashes.

No... I wasn't actually using Titebond III wood glue to install the Powerflex bushings.
The "wood glue" came from me using a bottle I recycled and filled with dish soap and water, which makes an excellent temporary assembly lubricant. It dries clean and leaves the bushings properly seated without contaminating them.
Have you ever done an N55 oil pan gasket? If so, what's the biggest "while you're in there" repair you'd recommend?
