The Boeing 727 was designed and built with a philosophy that I don't think exists with Boeing management any more, or at least it doesn't exist with the people calling the shots over there.

That "767" is a 777, it doesn't effect the video though as the flaps are very similar between the two planes. When making this I was putting the thumbnails together and they look about the same in that format.

The triple slotted flaps of the 727 were remarkable - but remember the Trident didn't have the hot and high short runway requirments for BEA. This was however required and achieved with the VC-10 over the 707.
Blind auto landings you mention were pioneered by the Trident, as were triplex reduncancy systems. And don't forget Boeing benefitted from 'shared' development where they got all the technical data, and gave none in return.
