The remarkable thing about his technique is the straight run-up. Every time! It's a straight run-up. He does not start on the left or on the right. He does not shuffle or angle a run. It's a straight run-up with no body shape whatsoever. The lack of any body shape means that he is hard to read. I've not seen another player in world football do that since.
That last step allowed him to gain one time and ‘read’ the goalie movement. Than a simple ankle collapse when having to open to his right. Plus obviously his pristine mental vision always unaltered by any emotion.
Eric the King!... The amazing thing is if you watch this video is that about 80% of his kicks go to the keepers right and about 90% of that 80% are low to the right
Yea they were all low to mid height which makes them so hard to save and also a lot of them ended up right in the corner . Sheer skill. I wonder if he did practice them or did he just trust his technique on the day.
Few years before playing for MU, Cantona played for Bordeaux and during a french cup game vs a smaller town he failed a panenka with a ridicoulus kick... It was before he became King Eric.
My Great-Grandad told me about this man. Apparently it is not necessary to learn intricate dancing skills to use before hitting the ball. Some players these days even incorporate a slalom run to make the penalty-kick more interesting. Cantona seems to amble up to the ball, and almost roll it in. Very entertaining video. Thanks 👍.
