This week on True Crime News The Podcast: A father warned the judge, “If you let him out, he’s going to kill her,” before the court granted his daughter’s abuser bail. Shortly after Bricen Rivers was released, he beat Lauren Johansen to death and drove around with her body while trying to cover up his crime. Police apprehended Rivers after a six-hour manhunt, and he has now pleaded guilty to capital murder.
In the wake of this senseless tragedy, Lauren’s father, Dr. Lance Johansen, joins the show to discuss the systemic failures he believes led to his daughter’s death and his ongoing efforts to reform laws to protect future victims.

Why are judges caring less and less about public safety? I don’t understand
It is time to hold judges accountable !

I really admire the emotions Ana G shows with the father.

This should never have happened. That poor family, that poor girl.

The only one that’s getting a life sentence here are her parents. 😡🤬 this judge needs to be put in prison. Period!!!

No violent stalkers should NEVER be given bail. Hopefully the doctor will sue the courts, ankle monitoring company and the jail!!

I went to high school with Lauren before she met bricen, I knew bricen personally before he met Lauren. She was this sweet quiet girl and he was an absolute loose canon. He completely changed who she was within just a year or 2. It makes me sick to think that he did this to such a sweet person. I genuinely hope the worst for him for the rest of his line. I pray for peace on the johansons

Ana - this case hits very close to home for me. I am a DV survivor. I’ve been free since 1999 of my abuser. I’m sure Lauren was manipulated psychologically by her abuser. It is not only physical, it is psychological as well and it is so hard to explain. If I can help Lauren’s Dad, I will be happy to be a voice. I was so blessed to have friends to help me, I am still in touch with them, luckily. They were (and are) angels on this earth. Sending love to Lauren’s Dad and Lauren’s family.

This is one of the most shocking things that I ever heard in a long time. I cannot believe this. I cannot fathom how this actually happened…

A complete break down in the Justice System!! This is not the first time that a judge let someone out of jail and they go and kill someone. We need a whole overhall of of the justice. The judges need to be accountable for their actions as well.
