Kristen & Michael watch District 9, a gripping sci-fi thriller set in a world where stranded alien refugees are forced to live in slum-like conditions on Earth. When a field agent is exposed to a mysterious alien substance, he begins an unexpected transformation that puts him at the center of a conflict between humanity, the aliens, and a ruthless corporation. The film blends action, social commentary, and emotional depth in a raw, documentary-style narrative.

Directed by Neill Blomkamp (Elysium, Chappie, Demonic), the film stars Sharlto Copley (Hardcore Henry, The A-Team, Powers), Jason Cope (Chappie, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Doomsday) and David James (Hunter Killer, District 9, Vaya).

After all these years im still upset there wasn't a sequel

This is an underrated and top 10 all time Sci Fi movie in my opinion. it would be criminal if they never come out with sequel even after waiting 15+ years.

When a story makes you feel empathy for beings that are literally alien, that's what I call great Sci Fi.

I know it’s YouTube rules, but “Suicide” shouldn’t be censored. It just further isolates and stigmatizes people who are struggling.

Such a good movie, never gets old, was way ahead of its time with the details of the Prawns🙏 the way they filmed this made this movie 10x better

"Not getting a happy ending, are we?"

Bold of you to assume we get an ending at all.

Still an absolute crime that they never made a sequel. District 9 blew my mind when I saw it shortly after it came out.

IMHO, this is probably one of the best sci-fi movies.

what still blows my mind is that Neill Blomkamp was just 29 when this movie came out. How often does someone this young have such a banger as a debut.

Now you guys need to watch Chappie

Most realistic and grounded alien tech ever shown on film.

@cmoney-3845 10 months ago

Crazy thing about this movie is that this team was in south Africa setting up to shoot a halo movie. that ran into legal trouble and they had to shoot a different movie and that movie is district 9

Someone may have mentioned it but the alien race had two classes - one who were intelligent and got wiped out by some disease etc. (Christopher seems to be one of them) and the rank and file who are more feral.

That's why it was so easy to subjugate them regardless of their tech advantage. Also you called out something that most people don't - at full power, this group could dominate humanity or convert them to their own species. District 10 whenever it comes could be very interesting because we'd finally get to know why this alien species actually came to Earth - to conquer, as a rescue stop or to colonize

Underrated in every way
Amazing story
Excellent Acting
Fantastic Makeup
Purposeful Score.
And the overall mission statement “you don’t know about someone/something unless you’ve walked/lived in their shoes.”

Michael has the social commentary down pact and I very much appreciate him for it.

If you find yourself in a lab and you aren't a scientist don't touch anything! Hey, what does this stuff do? That's a bottle of lingering pain and slow death!

ONE OF MY FAVORITE MOVIES LET'S EFFING GOOOO.

@arunbaburaj 10 months ago

The fact that this was made for $30m still amazes me. One of my all time favourites❤

@final_queer 10 months ago

this movie is more timely now than ever before. Great scifi films stand the testament of time and make you feel something. This is definitely one of those movies.

@MarzMaximus 10 months ago

This movie is so much deeper than a Sci-fi movie. Its a backdoor story of the struggles going on in South Africa. When you stop and thing about the various issues of South Africa over the years and how they sneak them in this story, it hits even harder.
