How Old is Every Major Sonic Character?

Despite spending over three decades battling ancient deities, outrunning collapsing planets, and stopping Doctor Eggman's endless world-conquering schemes, Sonic the Hedgehog has been officially locked at exactly 15 years old since his debut in 1991. The official Sega age chart paints a bizarre picture of the franchise’s heroic lineup: an unsupervised eight-year-old fox builds highly advanced combat biplanes, a 16-year-old echidna is left completely alone to guard a mystical floating island, and the oldest "adult" hero is Vector the Crocodile at just 20. Some of the most heavily experienced and deadly members of the cast are practically children on paper, fighting a war where the stakes regularly reach apocalyptic levels.
When you dive into the villains and extended lore, the timeline completely shatters. Shadow the Hedgehog physically resembles a teenager but spent fifty years locked in a stasis pod, haunted by the traumatic death of Maria Robotnik, who died permanently at age 12. Characters like Tikal and Chaos have existed for over 4,000 years, while the amnesiac Light Gaia (Chip) from Sonic Unleashed has been repairing the planet for millions of years. Even among the newest additions, the age disparity remains incredibly strange, ranging from Master Zik’s ancient 1,036 years to Sage, an artificial intelligence who is barely a few weeks old. This video explores the chaotic, permanently frozen ages of the entire Sonic the Hedgehog cast.
Covered in this video:
Sonic the Hedgehog, Classic Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy Rose, Doctor Eggman, Metal Sonic, Shadow, Maria Robotnik, Professor Gerald Robotnik, Rouge the Bat, E-123 Omega, E-102 Gamma, Cream the Rabbit, Vanilla the Rabbit, Big the Cat, Vector the Crocodile, Espio the Chameleon, Charmy Bee, Mighty the Armadillo, Ray the Flying Squirrel, Blaze the Cat, Silver the Hedgehog, Marine the Raccoon, Jet the Hawk, Wave the Swallow, Storm the Albatross, Tikal, Chaos, Chip, Light Gaia, The Deadly Six, Zavok, Infinite, Sage, Sticks the Badger
