Rich Mullins changed my life ... still does!
I wept like my mother died when he passed. Today, im in a valley and his music lifts my head daily!

Keith Green was a truly radical, sold-out for Jesus musician.  A co-worker shared the Gospel by being a joyful peaceful loving non-preaching witness who gave me a Keith Green album (he got it free) and forever changed the course of my new life in Christ. I later had the opportunity to meet Keith and Melody as a worker in a live concert (evangelistic service is what really it was). Wonderful people.

The crowd was disappointed upon entering the arena, seeing that there was no band, just Keith on a piano.  But he captured that audience with powerful anointed music and powerful Gospel preaching.  Hundreds of young people responded to the altar call. Wonderful to see.  Sadly, his airplane went down shortly after that event and tragically ended the short journey for Keith, 2 of his children and another family.  He was flawed like every human being, but his sincerity was obvious and made some mistakes.  He was a one of a kind.  Truly a man on fire.  "A piano pounding Prophet" is the best description as you note.  I'll never forget him and thank God for his sincere devotion and commitment to preaching the Gospel through his music.

Keith Green was amazing. His policy of giving away his cassettes for free allowed me, as a student at the University of Washington, to share his Gospel presentation with many fellow fellow students. Larry Norman's music made a huge impact on my life as he wrote it. Both artists are still a blessing to me personally.

I would have added Dallas Holmes to that list. Another guy who did concerts in the 80s on love offerings only and had an alter call at every concert.

Frank - I had not heard of him.
Carman - Righteous Invasion of Truth!!  His concerts were like a pep rally! Great story songs!
Larry - I wish we’d all been ready was a sobering song.
Rich - held a concert in our church a few months before he died. In person, he was a normal guy.
Keith - his songs were born in the secret place.

You’re #1 and #2 picks were perfect! No two were more radical and uniquely blessed for how they responded when it came to fame and fortune…it was Jesus first for them and Him alone. I am one of those thousands of college students from back in the late 1970s to early 80s when we lost Keith, Josiah, and Bethany in that horrible untimely plane crash. We all grieved and I’m sure most of us miss him to this day. Was so blessed to visit the gravesite (and Leonard Ravenhill’s) in late 2022. His music still ministers to my heart to this day. Thank you for posting this. We need more of these radicals to stand up and wake up this Laodicean church today.

Thank you for keeping awareness alive for these threads who bring and hold our quilt together.

So blessed by this video...thank you for this it was excellent.

REALLY enjoyed this - knew most of these through the years - so happy to see them all here on your podcast!  Blessings to you my friend .. Pastor Bob,

I was blessed to see Keith perform at the patio of the UCLA student union. No compromise describes him perfectly. One of the most powerful Christian concerts I’ve ever seen. The man was 100% dedicated to sharing his beliefs with anyone willing to listen. His life burned brightly. Amazing man and a dedicated brother. Taken much too soon.

LOVE Rich Mullins!!! As he was carried away by a 'chariot of fire' that didn't break his heart to 'say good-bye'. However, it sure did break our hearts to say good-bye!
He was so ahead of his time. There is an audio of him having a little concert in the late 70's. And like Keith, he told the crowd that was talking while he was speaking. That they needed to leave if they wanted to talk. Because they were interrupting others who wanted to hear about Jesus! I don't remember the name of the audio, because I've listened to so many. It's either on 'RichMullins Early Music or Ragamuffin Archives'
They say he was an imperfect man who had struggles (don't we all) and yet his heart was so in love with Jesus!
Can't wait to meet him in heaven.

Super inspiring - thanks for this

Second Chapter of Acts, they sang at times with Keith Green. My favorite, though he also have all the Dove awards, etc, is Steven Curtis Chapman. I saw him in concert during COVID,  just him and his guitars. He wrote about the gospel, and he wrote about everyday events. The most impacting album for me was Beauty Will Tise, which he wrote after the death if his daughter Maria. It helped me to give voice to my grief over my dad's death. One of the things that helps him stay true is that his pastor is always a part of what he does. He's not a lone wolf. He's part of a flock.

I got this several weeks after you released it. Thank you for your insights. I agree with most of your list, but your comments give insight as to what you saw in all of them. Solid video.
God Bless.

Rich Mullins is still one of my most favourite artists, love his Songs record compilations. Carman, big in South Africa when I was at high school - attend a concert (or two?) in Pretoria, where he performed ‘the Champion’. Keith Green, his music, but specifically his biography’No Compromise’ changed my faith walk during my final years of university. Now more than 30 years later, still enjoying those memories and music! Great video, thanks!

I believe you are spot on with your list!  Being older myself, my personal Christian Faith has been most impacted by Keith Green & Rich Mullins.  I never saw Keith Green live but I did see Rich Mullins several times.  Every time I saw Rich my Christianity was challenged and I came away with a more simple yet profound Christian world view.  I remember being at a multi-Christian artist venue and after Rich Mullins left the stage the MC announcing the each artist said Oh Wow .... that is real Christianity.

Thanks for that. I moved here(Nashville) in 1990 hoping to be a part of the CCM scene. Over the course of my life, I quit music twice, largely because the business was screaming “I’ve got to be me! Look at me! Look at what I can do!”…Jesus was all the time whispering die to self, live for me and for others. I could not figure how to put those two together. God brought mature believers like Buddy Greene and Michael Card and several others to make music with and mentor me through the process of how to find the balance and mature in Christ. All the guys you mentioned were radicals in the right ways. I’ve struggled with the idea of awards (6 Grammy noms, one win…never went). They just don’t make sense to me…God bless the radicals…

I would add Steve Camp who put 95 theses on the wall of CCM,  Scott Macleod who wrote Snakes in the Lobby, and Jeremy Riddle who wrote a book about this called Reset.

This was a very good program, thanks for the insights in to CCM!

Steve Camp and Steve Taylor should have at least gotten honorable mention shout outs, but this is a solid list.
