I feel it's worth noting... Valam was also the Highprince of the regions where the Davar lived, the plan of the Ghostbloods (unless they were lying) was to have Lin become the Highprince by now. If Shallan hadn't killed him, the Ghostbloods might have been in conflict with the Diagram in regards to this war.

Also Valam had his son kill him so that Taravangian wouldn't kill the son; though illegitimate, with so few people with any connection he might have had supporters who wanted to put him on the throne. Making him a regicide would disqualify him. This was to keep him from being a target for Taravangian, since by now Valam has figured out that Taravangian set this all up.

I'm also pretty confident that Dalinar met Cultivation before Taravangian did.
