If you bought your luxury bags to resell that was your first mistake. I buy mine to enjoy, so don’t care about the resale market. Bags were never investments, invest in real estate and equities.

Purses are not an investment; they are accessories that move in and out of fashion. Don't spend your money on hype.

My rule: don’t sell, unless you desperately need money. Market is circular. Luxury is relative ❤

Not a luxury bag buyer but I recall my investment advisor saying just buy what you love and dont think about resale. Sage advice.

My grandmother old money family taught me that true luxury is having a handmade bag from a leather goods shop, made as you want with quality material that will last a lifetime and you can give it as a gift to your grandchildren or friends once you no longer use it. The same goes for tailor-made clothes, or for example a cashmere sweater, you can always pass it on to someone else. Small wardrobe, but high-quality. Brands are ridiculous some time and no classy .

with this bubble collapse i hope we lose the term “preloved” and go back to used or second hand

Oh your bob cut suits you very well💇‍♀️👍❣️

I find all this talk and worry about resale value exhausting. It takes work and time to sell a bag. There's no such thing as a loss when selling a bag because you already experienced the loss when you bought the bag. Therefore, when selling the bag, you're starting at $0 and whatever you make is a bonus. You can't compare a second hand bag to the original retail price.

It's not pre-loved. It's used or second hand. You don't know where that bag has been. Did someone put it down on the floor of a public restroom? Did they wash their hands after using the washroom and before grabbing the bag handle? Do they have sweaty hands? Did they take it to a bed bug infested hotel room and the bed bugs pooped all over it? Did they carry their baby's dirty diaper in it? At the very least, that bag has soaked up their smell and the smell of their home even if they didn't use the bag. Icky. It should be heavily discounted.

What a relief!!! The resale market is bringing down the 'buy-sell-repeat' with it, it's back to people buying what they love, not buying what they can sell again. That's good news!
To me, the 'preloved' maths never added up because the "discount" supposedly was what you paid less for a used bag bought some time ago compared to the current retail price of a brandnew bag after some price increases. I've always found that deeply misleading since in reality you hardly saved any money buying a used bag.

I've been buying luxury bags since 2005. I have never sold anything and never bought anything secondhand. I just very carefully consider my purchases and don't get carried away by hype. Sometimes I don't wear something for 8 years, only for it to become an everyday bag again for a while. I feel peace around my collection. Right now, for example, I haven't bought a bag since around march 2025, simply because nothing interests me enough.

Don’t understand why people waste so much money on luxury bags. I put $10k in one stock and it’s worth $740k.

@tamarfischer283 8 months ago

Finally bags have rejoined the category of " things". Whatever you buy is new and in fashion and loses value once it is used. Furniture, cars, clothes. When I first discovered a bag was an " investment" I was confused and thought who is the genius marketer who invented that line?

@jacindafreeman1898 8 months ago

Very well said. I think the market is returning to where it should be, and I'm relieved that the "pre-loved" bubble has burst as it was unsustainable. I love vintage bags, and love that they're unique, have a history and are often better quality. I am not looking for "box fresh" and want the price I pay to reflect that they are not pristine.

I have 2 bags. I thought long and hard before i bought them. I love both and never plan to sell.

@NoWayNoHow999 8 months ago

I think Covid inflated the market, I think this time is just the adjustment. The economy, mid-priced bags like Coach, quality and marketing, and the Chinese revealing (even though some of us already knew) that the workmanship is done in their factories shook up the luxury market.

@KaryannFontaineikary4 8 months ago

I have bought luxury bags because I loved them, use them with care and have bags from 1990 through 2022. I have never sold a bag. They have brought me pleasure. Will not buy pre loved or new now. The prices are pure Greed. The seller is the Predator, the Customer is now The Prey.

@laurennichollearnold 8 months ago

This is not time to sell. It is a time to buy. It will change, it always goes up and goes down.

@Julia-Lovingu 8 months ago

Just went and discovered eBay auction system for a week, and price forming. And I got it.

Things are selling fast, but only cheap things. People are paying (mostly US), but they all want as low as possible.
