Fallout has a lot of lore. Like a lot, a lot. So much that it almost feels like you're diving into a real history subject just trying to learn it. From endless wiki and forum pages, to insightful developer commentary, to hours upon hours videos, Fallout's lore is some of the most well-documented lore of any franchise. But, there are some small bits and pieces of lore that fall through the cracks. Lore that the games and players forget. Let's talk about it. Welcome to the Lost Lore of Fallout.

Literally anything’s possible. I do like how the tv show made things like sleeping and radroaches real wasteland threats. Without planning, or a large community of good people, basic survival would be extremely difficult with all the different kinds of dangers that exist in the fallout universe.

The Great Plague is mostly forgotten about in-world because the people in it are all descendants of those with resistance/immunity to the Great Plague.

8:21 Reminded me of a joke: "The worst part about Canada is one half of its population speaks french and the other one lets them"

In my mind, the Phase Shift Virus sounds like something that rotates molecules. Some molecules are shown in (if I remember correctly) certain orientations as phases, and rotating those can have different effects. Think of it like prion disease but on a molecular level instead of a protein level.

The Gamma Cyclotronic Virus could be a early ideia about ghoulification process. The virus already present in the body could be activated or boosted beyond the immune system suppress capabilities and turning the person a ghoul

The half English half French Canadain vault wouldn't have even survived to see the bombs drop.

The origin of the NCR makes the TV series incredibly ironic: Hank McClain destroyed Shady Sands believing that it's just another wasteland faction when it is in fact the direct outcome of one of the vaults. Think about it: he destroyed something that actually proved Vault-tec's thesis correct, that the vaults really did produce one of the most successful future states for post-war human civilisation

Phase shifting virus might be something akin to a natural stealth field. Perhaps that's why it was an open possibility for the nightstalkers in New Vegas who just chewed a stealth boy. Ideally, Nightkin should have had that virus.

Pitch for a Canadian vault: An otherwise normal vault except every surface is coated in maple syrup.

Every. Single. Surface.

The two viruses may have been a tongue in cheek way of explaining how the Brotherhood is so smart, and yet so stupid.

Phase shifting in humans is a way to explain a circadian rhythm disorder, with people being tired during the day and not being able to sleep or waking up earlier than they want to.

While the Brotherhood also may have been smart/stupid enough to use a cyclotron for gamma testing, and since its giving them flu like radiation poisoning instead of turning them into ghouls, they've identified it as something worth study.

I could see both of these instances being mislabeled by the Brotherhood at the time as new viruses.

I am so Warhammer-brained that Super Mutants make me think, "They were trying to make Space Marines and instead got Orks!"

One bit of hidden lore that I hear was that there was a glitched choice of saving the talking dealthclaws, and I like to think that since it was just glitched, it would be a possibility. And I do like the idea of talking dealthclaws, even if other folks don’t.

I always assumed these virusses were combined with F.E.V. which would explain the mutable effects of F.E.V.

Phase-shifting virus sounds like Nightkin.

Literally everything about Civil Defense for SOME UNKNOWN REASON has been entirely FORGOTTEN about for all of Fallout after fallout 2, yet they KEEP the damned posters up all over the place.

One lore theory I like, is that basically everyone is infected with some level of the/a type of FEV.
On the extreme level you have super mutants, in the middle you have ghouls, and everyone else is just more resistant to radiation, heals faster and is just more resilient.
It’s just a cool tidbit to explain how people actually survive in that world and how ghouls form… it’s a corruption of some form of FEV or a similar virus that could’ve spread without anyone knowing because it would be very subtle and show mostly positive traits unless you turned into a ghoul.

It’s just a neat idea I like, I don’t know if/how much evidence there is for it.
