The Opium Wars, or the "Century of Humiliation," as it's known in China, is a historical period China still remembers to this day, a period China will never forgive the West and from which the roots of China's current conflict with Europe and the United States lie.
How is 19th-century Chinese history connected to the Roosevelt family? Why did Hong Kong and Taiwan secede from China? How did China lose its power? Also in this issue: History of 19th-century England, the confrontation between China and the West, the Chinese Civil War, the East India Company, and the fall of the Qing Dynasty.
