The way the camera follows her around the house and the voyeuristic shots of her from outside makes us feel like we're the killer watching her. Wes Craven was brilliant.

The opening scene of this film alone actually works great as a short film

"why do you want to know my name?"
"because I want to know who I'm looking at"
that is EXCELLENT writing. we've gone from 0 - 100 over the course of a SINGLE phrase. easily one of the most iconic lines of the entire film.

The scariest part about this is that creepy long distance shot of her hanging from the tree from her mom and dad’s pov

I love how the popcorn on the stove symbolizes this scene intensifying and getting more and more out of control.

“Because I wanna know who I’m looking at.” Man. I’d kill to go back to 1996 and relive that for the first time again.

Drew Barrymore only had five days of filming for this scene and the final result is amazing. She's such a wonderful actress and she sold the scene very well.

A horror movie way ahead of its time, you can never ever replace the original one. Not even in millions of years.

In my personal opinion, this is the best opening in horror history, the fact that this alone could convince someone to be a short film is simply amazing writing

The most iconic horror opening scene ever-
-The setting (night time, alone)
-beautiful modern farmhouse
-The classic telephone ring
-The voice acting
-The dialogue
-The suspense
-Drew Barrymore’s acting

This will FOREVER go down as the best opening in a Scream movie. It’s bone chilling, suspenseful, creepy. The writing is amazing and the acting? Outstanding! Gives me chills every time. I will never tire of the franchise.

- Why are you doing this?
- Peer pressure. I'm far too sensitive.

This worked so well because Drew Barrymore was the most famous actress in Scream at the time that it was released. Killing her off in the first 10 minutes of the movie lets you know that anything can happen.

I'll never forget showing my parents this movie, they thought drew barrymore was a main character. the look on their eyes when she dies in the opening scene, Scream is the classic!!!

The cherry on top of this scene is how delicate they made her house. Lots of tall windows with no blinds, lots of outside doors everywhere. Such a great detail.
