Henry Percy 3rd Earl of Northumberland died in the battle of Towton. He was my 16th great grandfather.

I’m impressed with the surgeon’s skill! That’s actually a brilliant way to deal with contaminated wounds and a large foreign body. (I’m a doc)

From what I've read, the broad head arrow heads were purposely attached to the arrow shaft with beeswax making it easy for them to remain in the wound if pulled out. If the arrow entered a limb, like an arm or leg, they would push and work the arrow all the way through the limb. Then break off or remove the head before pulling the arrow shaft out of the limb.

Love the doc, thank you!

My ancestor missed this battle he was captured but died at the battle of Barnet, John Neville. His younger daughter Isabel.

And all because of feuding cousins. The rest of the population had to choose a side and die for what? A change of King. Then Richard of York's granddaughter married Henry VII and they all got on again.

I read this as "Battle of Townton". But I'm a Joel Haver fan.

The background music is too jaring. Seemed interesting but the music bed killed it.

actually Towton is far from the bloodiest medieval battle. The battle of salsu from 612 saw korea flooding a river and 302,300 chinese soldiers drowned, the army of 305,000 completely torn apart. the mongol sack of baghdad was a brutal urban siege and approx. 200,000 to 1,000,000 soldiers and civilians died. the battle of achelous 917 saw 80,000 combined casualties between byzantines and bulgarians.

Whats is hilarious is that the British people somehow think that longbows can best armor, which was tested time and again and proved. What should be said is that only the rich had armor. That leaves 90% of the forces in chain mail... or worse.

I don't think most people appreciate just how painful searing your exposed flesh like that is. I had to have someone poke around clumsily with tweasers about an inch and a half into a hole in my arm once, and that was painful enough... I'm extremely stoic with stuff like that, but even I had to wince and grunt a little at that. scorching the sides of the deep chasm a fuckin' arrow head and part of a shaft would leave in you would be next level pain. it will have involved screaming.
