The Bunt community where very well to do families. Because of late Prime Minister Smt Indira Gandhi they all lost land in undivided South Kannara . She introduced Declaration a land reforms that stated the person tilling the land belongs to him and not for the landlord. So these people lost majority of their land, and the youngsters migrated to Bombay for better prospects. This community was a courageous community in undivided South Kannara.
