Today at the sawmill, we’re taking on a mystery log—and we have no idea what we’re going to find inside!

We’ll put this log on the mill, start cutting, and see what kind of lumber it gives us. We’re also quarter-sawing some of the lumber to see how the grain comes out and what we can turn this mystery log into.

There’s always a little excitement when you don’t know what’s hiding inside a log until the sawmill opens it up!

As a kid, I remember that my cousin and I would spend many days hunting down yellow jacket nests and both of us used picket fence slats and we would swat and kill all of the wasps that were flying trying to sting us. We killed hundreds of wasps and I remember that I never did receive a sting from any wasp. I did get stung at times by stepping on bees because I was usually bare foot in the summer. I've never had to deal with fire ants thank goodness. Stay happy and God bless all of you!

I would buy a window unit that heats and cools. Their thermostats cuts them off when reach the desired temperature. A good will last twenty years. If you intent to keep harvesting hay please build a pallet that will carry 15 rolls and that will prevent handling the hay twice. Have fun and stay safe!

Guessed Ash correctly! Up here in Michigan the Ash Borer has killed most of the Ash trees. They are a great firewood and takes very little seasoning!

We remodeled the house I was born in and we use Ash flooring with a 50 year finish on it. Make a nice floor.
And get you some Tea Tree Oil for the wasp stings and fire ant bites. It takes the pain away.

Hey, have you guys thought about plugging the holes in the saw mill? If you have any restraunts in the area, or bars, (or if Ms. Brittany likes wine) just give'em a bag or something and ask them to save you the wine corks. Use those to plug the holes. Easy enough to pull'em out if you need to. I also saw a trick on you tube actually, where people use soda cans with just a little soda in them, and they left those sitting around in various places on the inside of the shop or shed or whatever (mill) and the wasp would go inside the cans and die cuz they cant get out. Just a thought. Oh, one more thought incase you do get stung again. I heard a wod of chewing tobacco placed on the fresh sting will help with the pain as well as the swelling. :o) Thanks for the content!

A trick my dad taught me. If you get bit by a fire ant, spray the bite right away with WD-40. With in 10 minutes the bite is gone with no festering for days. Just the other day on my mill, I got stung by a wasp. It hurt like hell. Sprayed it with WD-40 and the pain stopped and did not bother me at all. Try it, you will keep a can in your tractor and mill shed after that. The wife and I have those mini cans in our zero turn, truck and Jeep.
