Eurythmics 'Julia' is from 1985 ofc, not 1978/1979 which was a mistype!

Maniac 2000 was such a massive hit in Ireland that I assumed it was a hit worldwide. I was only a child at the time so I didn’t understand anything but still. It was huge.

Mark mccabe - maniac is Irelands second national anthem 😂

Safe to say the Irish love a ballad and a Eurovision song 😂

You should do one for Hits in the UK, Flops in Ireland

I'm surprised how low that Tracey Chapman song was in the UK.

This is insane. I'm in the middle of compiling a book on the Irish charts and this is the very thing that I've noticed. Some of the Irish hits/UK flops are astounding. You put this up one day ago and it's randomly come up in my feed

Considering how many hits the UK and Ireland have shared over the years, there were some real surprises here! The Irish artists and Eurovision winners made sense in not doing well here, but the likes of Tina Turner, R.E.M, La Bouche and Tracy Chapman hits having such difference in chart fortunes are fascinating

Ironic that "Si la vie est la cadeau" charted higher in Ireland when Ireland wasnt even in Eurovision that year

Also Chris Rea “I can hear your heartbeat”, a No. 14 hit in Ireland, a hit all over Europe but not in his native UK

Most were Irish acts but it's interesting that real story lyrical driven songs from the likes of Nanci Griffin and Tracy Chapman did so well

I did think how labour intensive this must be! The research is mind-blowing and I am learning so much. Absolute love these! Please keep them coming. THANK YOU!!!

A lot of the acts are Irish to be fair. What this list doesn't illustrate that well is the phenomenon of US artists who are big in Ireland but less of a deal in the UK. Nancy Griffith was one example but there are others. Ireland also adopted Chris Reas Water Sign album in 1983-84 effectively rescuing his career. It did the same for David Gray  with his album White Ladder 15 years or so later on .

1:50 : R.I.P. Melanie Thornton

It’s surprising that You’re My Heart, You’re My Soul 98 charted as high as it did in Ireland as the original failed to chart there. It’s not a surprise it failed in the UK as the original peaked at number 56.

I was today years old when I found out “Useta Love Her,” made famous in my native Newfoundland by The Irish Descendants, was a cover.

Surprised not to see Six on there as it was a huge number 1 in Ireland

Aaron Neville and Linda Ronstadt could sing the phone book and it would be great.

Only When I Sleep might be a flop, but it was the lead single on the biggest selling album in the UK in 98.

There's nothing that gets us going beserk on the dancefloor than Maniac 2000 by Mark McCabe, hence the reason why it was No.1 for 10 weeks. Cry Before Dawn are from my home county, Wexford. Just curious where can I find the archives for IRMA the Irish Top 40 Singles Charts?.
