He's right about columbine. I'm in zone 5 and had one in a plastic nursery pot last year that I put in my unheated garage for 3 months over the winter. I didn't touch it and thought for sure it would die, but it came back twice as big and I finally got it planted 😂

So happy to see the serviceberry grows well in a container!! 🎉

I plan on putting two serviceberries in grow bags this year until I can find a more permanent home for them

I love all of your videos, but this one is now my favorite! So much information to get me started. Not only plant species but information about soil and pots to choose. Plant nerds are the best!

I love this presentation!!! I have some fire pink and foxglove beardtongue in a pot along the sidewalk. Great combination of plants and looks great together.

In Boston, 6b I have a Centaurea Montana and a Stokes aster each in 12 inch flower pots on my front steps and they have both done very well for a few years now, with little attention in the winter. I also have a silver maple in a maybe 24 inch pot that my daughter nursed from a seedling and I didn’t have the heart to kill. It’s now 4 feet tall and still seems happy after 4 years in a pot on the patio. Each time we upgrade the pot it grows to fill it, but we’ll see how long it lives as a ‘bonsai’ tree!

This is a great video. I was hoping to see a link to his plant list in the comments above.

I think the growing zone is in your favor there. I am in zone 4 and I have tried native plants before and they almost all died the first winter. Some lasted 1 or 2 winters (Solidago rigida e.g.). Also my balcony is covered, and I have heard maybe they did not get enough moisture or snow cover over the winter. Is there any more information on how he insulated the pots? I am inspired to try again with some of the zone 3 species he mentioned!
