Hollywood has spent a lot of money getting Matt Damon home

Ryan asking the names of the men who died looking for him was the perfect thing to say.

And the shaky camera fell in love with Matt for the following 10 years

germans: shit that's jason bourne

And “Shakespeare in Love” wins the academy award over this masterpiece……

Tom hanks shaking his head "in understanding" at the end of the clip. One of the few times in cinema I've seen it done so well.

Tom Hanks crossfire nearly took out the 101st 😂

The 90s really were the golden age of film.

I was in Vietnam for 4 years. For 17 months '68-'70 I was in the 1/502 101st Airborne as a rifle platoon leader and recon platoon leader and company commander. Fast forward to when this movie premiered two friends who had never been in the military wanted me to go with them to watch it. When this scene came up and they were telling Ryan they were taking him home I said "He won't go"  After the scene they ask me how I knew that. My reply was "Because I would have refused also". And because of the guilt of leaving your fellow soldiers behind.
It is a bond they could not understand.

In 1972 during the Easter Offensive I was in the Battle of An Loc and was shot up. After being evacuated to Okinawa for 20 days and was told I would be transferred to a stateside hospital. I went awol from the hospital and caught a C 130 back to Vietnam. It was fairly easy to do! 37 days after being shot I was back in An Loc.

I felt guilty the entire time I was gone.

Of the 19 American advisors with the Vietnamese 1st Airborne Brigade and it's 4 battalions during the 72 day battle of An Loc 10 were wounded and two killed including my RTO and Ops Sgt when I was wounded. Of those 19 advisors there were 4 DSCs and 10 Silver Stars awarded for valor. There were almost 400 brave Vietnamese paratroopers killed!

I would have lived a life of regret if I had abandoned men like them!

“Tell her.. that when you found me, I was with the only brothers that I had left.”

If those words don’t punch you in the gut and soul when heard, you aren’t human.

It’s sad to know these men of “The Greatest Generation” are nearly almost all gone.

My grandfather and many of my great uncles served in this war, and if we don’t learn from the sacrifices they were willing to make, we are doomed to repeat the actions of the aggressors they fought.

End of scene -  as he nods, he tilts his head to the side at one point. It looks as though he’s debating with himself, deciding whether the squad should stay on the bridge and help. A masterstroke.

1:58 Love how Spielberg made Matt Damon look like an extra actor in his first enchance

Patrolling through an open field, surrounded by a perimeter of dense tree cover. Never.

Private Ryan is the son of a gun. Genius Spielberg

Why does movies 30 y.o. look so much better than today ? Like, the light, the background. Everything seems so, so good, compared to today.

This movie still looks so damn good after 30+ years, you'd think this was filmed in the 2010s

One of the most monumental war movies..Platoon...Fury... Savior...

Maaaaatt Daaaamon!

Orders are you stay at that airport soldier!

Matt Damon... Playing the stranded survivor since 1998.
