Thanks Christopher! After a long hiatus from playing I've taken the mandolin back up in my retirement. Beautiful lesson.

Hey cheers from Oregon.  You're a great teacher!! Thanks for the video

Glad you are enthusiastically redundant about these essential things.

Thank you so much I needed this humbling video lol. I came from a classical trumpet degree and I think it's hard for those of us with past music experience to accept where we are with the new instrument and to be patient enough to not create big holes in our technique. It's like I have advanced ears but novice hand and fingers. I've been progressing so fast that I would have probably said I was intermediate before I watched this video. Now I feel like im a top notch beginner that has a few holes to fill in my technique in order to hit that mando player evolution into an intermediate. Thank you for constantly inspiring my practice.

Wow, I feel like I could spend six months or more on this video alone!  Great lesson!

Persistence is key, which is why I took a day before opening this.  Now I am going to go practice.

Been watching this video on repeat for the past hour 😂..
Almost There 😉👌

This is sooo painful, and exactly what I need! Thank you sir

I've  been resisting 😢This is the thing that so many of us have skipped  over🙏

Your internal repertoire is the same ethos that I was taught in the Irish music tradition. My teachers always told me to lilt tunes, which is when you sing a tune using non-sensical syllables like diddle-dum-ridle-dee type of things. Listen to a tune so much that you can lilt it exactly how you want to play it including any ornaments. If you can lilt it you can play it relative to your actual ability with the instrument. But that’s what playing slow is for, just take it as slow as you need to without making mistakes but play with the correct rhythm and phrasing

Great lesson! Never knew you had those Tennessee Ernie Ford vocal tones in you! Thanks, Chris.

Three years into my journey I'm developing a mantra. It goes something like this: if you skipped any classes in mandolin 101, no worries. Just know that you will eventually go back to them out of necessity. Two years into my journey was when I went all the way back to lesson one: single string constant 8th notes. It's literally the first thing almost every mandolin teacher teaches you to do. And almost all of us do it four or five times and move on. Two years later you can't figure out why your tone is terrible and you still can't play. Also, Chris: you're getting very good in front of that camera. You kept that smile going like a boss! 😊

Chris, great sounding mandolin. It looks very close to my Randy Wood mandolin. The matte finish looks good. And your , as always , is great.
Gary

Not to be redundant, but I caught and appreciated the Firesign Theater reference there...

Thanks Chris. Great lesson for this newbie.

Dude! 😂 ok, you’re my teacher! That high register then Jonny Cash version! Haha. Love it

I am brand new to the Mandolin family, i didn't realize how familiar this song was to me. I think i am going to enjoy using this for practice. Also, the technique you used to vocalize the Mandolin shuffle, not quirky at all to me. Actuality it clicked something for me. Thank you very much! Im definitely a new subscriber, and im going to check out your other lessons. Have a great day.

Great lesson!

Big sensei energy in this vid. Thanks!

😂😁🤣😅 Hilarious and fun!
