Cheyne Horan, along with Tom Carrol and Tom Curren were the only surfers to speak out against and boycott the ASP events in South Africa during apartheid. Carrol and Curren probably lost an extra world title or two because of it. This is something that has been forgotten and is seldom mentioned, but as a coloured kid who was a teenage surfer  in the 80's I have crazy respect for all three of those guys. They took a stand! 🙏

As an avid lifelong surfer i cannot stress enough how important it is to “ play “ around with fins. I’ve made fins out of mud flaps which happened to be some of my favorite days out there !

I had a Quad Astro fins in my custom made Jackson in 1983. They worked awesome on the Quad. Anything over 4ft forget it. Board woluld slide out

I made fins for 10 years with Maui Fin Co. and shaped my own boards and the one time I made a twin fin with symmetric fins it was lose but had no drive ground those fins off and put flat sided fins on and wow plenty of drive and generated speed through the turns. This was back in 1996.
