The subdivisions of England constitute a hierarchy of administrative divisions and other non-administrative areas.
England is also divided into nine regions, now used primarily for statistical purposes. It is divided into 48 ceremonial counties, which is appointed a Lord-lieutenant, the representative of the monarch in those areas.
