Although taking both stone crab claws is allowed the general practice is to only take one claw.

Re: the stone crabs and their claws: their claws are actually releasable as a defense mechanism -- if their claw is stuck or grabbed by a tougher predator, they can release it in a similar way as some lizards release their tail to escape predation.  There are some species of crayfish ("crawdads") that also do this.  You can actually hold a stone crab up by one claw until it realizes it can't get its claw loose, and they'll just unlatch from it and drop free -- catch them with your off hand, repeat, and release them, and you've got two claws.  Frankly, it's kinder to just take one claw per crab and leave it with a working one, but they do grow back over time as Stephen said.  You DO NOT pull the claws off, because if you do that, the crab will bleed out and die -- you have to let the crab release it, which it does at the natural point and which triggers processes to pinch off the joint and seal the blood vessels.

I didn’t know you were a vegan. You should mention it occasionally.

Brutal 🤣💙

I worked at a place with a butterfly enclosure, spending hours sweating especially in there I would always have a few on my hat sucking at my sweat

In Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, the Catholic Church also granted permission to eat seal meat on Good Friday. Same logic, in  respect to living in water.

"You've got beaver in my aspirin!"
"You've got aspirin in my beaver!"

Culinary.

3:46 Considering cat meat was quite common in 19th century London, particularly in Whitechapel and Spitalfields, surely there must have been cat sandwiches as well?

14:55 -- "Like those ridiculous flightless birds in New Zealand".  The Moa.  Grew up to 12 feet tall and weighed up to 550 pounds.  To be fair, at that size, it doesn't really need to fly, it can just run you over like a Mini Cooper with feathers.

Also, in re: the other birds telling the Moa it ought to hang on to flying:  Haast's Eagle, also of New Zealand.  Up to a 9.8 foot wingspan, nearly 5 feet beak to tail (about 3 feet standing up since they tilted forward) and 40 pounds (relatively short wingspan for their length likely due to hunting in forests like the still surviving Harpy Eagle).  Their talons were the size of Bengal Tiger claws.  They hunted by ripping their prey's (mostly moa and humans) belly open with their claws and waiting for it to bleed out, although they were known to fly off with small prey, like moa chicks or human children.

The Moa is extinct in New Zealand because it was tasty.  The Haast's Eagle is extinct in New Zealand because WE are tasty.

The way Jimmy put his hand on the guy whose dad killed his rabbit was really sweet.

Such a fantastic show. I am constantly amazed and laughing about the information I learn

Lived in Northamptonshire for 36years never heard about these butterflies. Although I do live under a rock.

8:18 great reply from Richard Osman 😂.

Frogs, toads, alligators, and turtles are allowed to be eaten on Friday also.

13:25 Greenland sharks can live 500 years Stephen. The Ming Clam became 507 yeas and Turritopsis dohrnii, commonly known as the immortal jellyfish can, as the name suggests, theoretically live forever.

Just when you thnk you've heard everything, Alan Davies talks about 'rimming the beaver'.

The Mongols did a similar thing to the Masai, drinking horse blood and sheep/goats milk.

I can't wait til Phil goes on Taskmaster

How can anything be designated a fish when research and QI have proven that there is no such thing as a fish?

I don't know. A panel of comedians and not a single one mentioned the lovely, purple suit their fabulous host was wearing during the butterfly section.
