Gen 2 was a magical experience.

Best RPG games in the series. It honestly feels so immersive.

I think if you look at it from a game design standpoint, Gen 2 of Pokemon is the perfect example of how to make a sequel. They built upon previously established concepts perfectly by expanding typing interactions and building their roster of team options with 150+ more Pokemon, plus they had the added surprise of being able to go back to Kanto and collect the originals. There was no need to reimagine the formula at this point like so many games try to do now and they understood that. 10/10 part of my childhood 😂

It's been in vogue for a few years now to consider these games bad. It's nice to see people re-appreciating what makes these games so great.

crystal was my first pokemon game. after spending nearly 40 hours going through the first region and beating the elite 4 i was absolutely floored when i realized there was a whole other region to explore. seriously one of the best gaming experiences ive ever had. ive been chasing that high to this day.

GSC is the GOAT generation.
From the sprites to having 2 regions and everything in between.. and they didnt even apply power creap to the meta...
ICONIC!!

I grew up hearing them called 'Legendary Dogs', but in retrospect, they're definitely cats. Entei is a Lion, Raikou is a Sabretooth Tiger, and Suicune is a Leopard.

I remember leaving Silver as "???" and someone didn't know what Question Marks were so he said "You named him Q Q Q?"

The moment you realise you can explore the kanto region after the elite 4...mind blowing. So many good and fun easter eggs to explore

Pokemon Gold and Silver have a special place in my heart. I remember when they released it was completely sold out everywhere in my town. I was so bummed and my mom did her best to try and find a copy. But we randomly went out of town on a school day to this small mall. She was secretly trying to find a copy but had no luck, so I wandered off and found few copies of Silver in a Hispanic stereo shop. My mom was quick to grab one because we weren't the only family on the hunt for them. The whole drive home I played and my arms were so sore from keeping them up in the light of the car behind us on the highway. Made countless memories on those games and found a shiny butterfree from headbutting trees. But didn't have any pokeballs. Then no one believed me at school that I found a different colored pokemon. Ah good times.

Playing through Pokemon Gold with my Feraligatr named Bitter (it was supposed to be Biter, but I didn’t know how to spell it as a kid) was one of the best experiences of my childhood.

I didn't even realize what was going on with the so-called "Kanto" region until I saw Vermillion City. I had no idea that the region of gen 1 was called Kanto. Probably because I rarely talked to NPCs. The moment of my jaw hitting the floor was maybe 5-6 seconds after the city name appeared on my screen.

You are definitly not aware but the man in the white cap at the very beginning of the video is called Guz Rodriguez that man is the reason why Nintendo conquered the latinoamerican continent. R.I.P the man, the legend Guztavo Rodriguez.

I’ve watched probably 10+ of these long form video essays praising gen 2 games, and I’ll gladly watch many more

Silver version is where Pokémon games started for me. This generation will always be my favorite too.

Getting gold version was a core memory for me at 11 years old. I played that game over night on a school day.

IMO, Gen 2 is the best Pokémon generation. They still had something to prove back then. Everyone expected Pokémon to be a passing fad. Gold/Silver proved people wrong. They addressed the weaknesses of Red/Blue and added so many new features.

Compare that to today, where Pokémon games look generations behind in graphics, they're half finished, and they're stale as heck. The only game to grab my attention in years was Legends: Arceus. This is when they FINALLY did something new.

GSC is peak for me. Gen 2 is my favorite generation.
The fact that they put Kanto into the post game blew my mind as a kid. Like can you imagine if they did that today with Scarlet and Violet, and you go back to Galar? But it’s changed since your original journey? 🤯🤯

Silver was my first game. It was such a challenge as a kid.

Gen 2 is my favorite Gen and its not even close. You just had to be there. I feel privileged to be in 2nd grade when these came out and everyone at school and summer camp was trading and battling on their gameboys.
