Parfums de Marly was a significant niche house until 2023. Since being acquired by a private equity firm, things have only gone downhill. What they produce today has nothing to do with niche perfumery. Beyond no longer being niche, they have also reformulated their scents, increasing the alcohol content from 78% to 82%. This significantly compromises longevity; Herod and Layton simply don't have the same caliber they once did

this came at a perfect time, I went to a Nordstrom just a few days ago and came away loving Galloway, Godolphin and Perseus. just scooped a 4.2oz of Godolphin for a lovely deal. Thanks for the shout out

Darley is my all time favorite from PDM. Like you, I didn't think much of Percival, at first, but it has really crept up to my number 3 spot, behind Haltane. Sedley and Greenley round out my top five. This fall, I'll be giving Godolphin some wears, since it is quite overlooked in my collection, and Galloway will be getting some wears for the same reason when it warms up again, next year.

Pdm is a brand that I used to love initially but slowly fell out love with as my nose matured. I can remember owning atleast 6 of them

With only so many fragrances I can own now, pdm unfortunately didn't make the cut

But I have to give props to them for opening the doors to "expensive" niche for me

Sedley is arguably one of the easiest freshies you can pull off (my issue with it was that it is so simply and despite being an ambroxen and amber woods bomb didn't last long)

Greenly is super synthetic but it lasts slightly longer (fell for the hype)

Althair smells great but it's so simple (fell for the hype)

Herod is so good but it's got atrocious performance.

Layton is sweet and fresh done right. I can see why it was hit (but it's still kinda basic)

Haltane ( and oud for greatness by extension) is something I can't stand. I thought It was the synthetic oud that I hated but it was the synthetic saffron. It smells like burnt rubber

I think you should give Perseus another chance. It also mixes with everything. Fun fact"the new Herod" turns red after a year. Yours isn't stronger it has just macerated longer. If you can find an old box you would see the"old formulation" had 4% water and the new one doesn't.
