An absolutely amazing collection Chris! The first prewar set I was attracted to and a lot of it was because of cards you showed today. Amazing stuff! I had been waiting for you to do this one. Thanks for the video and thanks for sharing!
Beautiful cards, Chris. All so good, love the details and the colors. The Bill Terry might be my favorite - the stretch at first base, the layers of color, the background, everything about it so cool!
These are great cards and I have become aware of them only in last few years. Growing up I knew of T206, Goudey, and even Playball but Diamond Stars were either just not popular or I missed it. Interesting to think what would have been issued if National Chicle would have finished the entire series of 240 “fielding tips” promoted on the backs. My favorite of what you showed is the Joe Vosmik, the facial expression, shadows on the ground, catcher gear, no baseball, no ump (must be a batter up practice swing!). To me the Carl Hubbell while not an action shot fully captures what I imagine the essence of 1930’s depression era baseball was. As always fantastic video and commentary, hope to see you at next Silver Spring show in November.
Hi Chris, Love the Diamond Stars set for all the reasons you state. You have beautiful examples. I rarely talk about condition because it is pretty apparent when you look at the card, but I agree that a higher conditon vintage card is welcome in my collection anytime. I had done a video quite awhile ago on Fritz Ostermueller and how he they misrepresented who he was in the movie "42". I don't like how they make villians out of real life people when the evidence is questionable at best and an outright fabricaiton at worst. It is not only a beautiful card, but serves as a reminder that you shouldn't hurt real people because you needed another antagonist for your movie. Jackie's story has plenty of antagonsists to choose from. Thanks for sharing our collection.
Awesome set! I have the basic hof run complete with one of each player. Need to work on some of the variation options. I like a mix of well loved and some super clean examples depending on card and set. Good stuff!
