I love how Roberta said it was her mess to clean up and not left for her kids to do.

@LadySybil 10 months ago

To this lady: we are here watching because we have our own mess and chaos! Our own feelings of being overwhelmed means we're really helped by people like you kindly sharing your work with us. Thank you and I hope you don't feel shame when this is done.

Roberta, your level of clutter is way more common than you think. Be kind to yourself in your self-judgement. You're literally inspiring so many others letting us share in the process. We're rooting for you every step of the way.

The amount of patience that April has with her clients is amazing!!!

Wow, I cannot express my gratitude enough for this woman. My parents house is full of junk and they have told me it’s going to be my problem to figure out. You can tell she really loves her daughter and doesn’t want her to have to spend hours and days sorting through stuff that should’ve been thrown out years ago. Bless you!

I like when April reminds us that we are supportive and non judgmental. It is a polite way of saying “we are not going to have that here”.

I love her husband coming in and praising her and complimenting her.

I actually watch those not because I'm searching for inspiration, I just love seeing people grow and make their spaces calm. I get a sence of happiness seeing the after, really a highlight of my sunday mornings ^^

Cant emphasize enough how cool it is that she knows where all that clutter/stuff comes from!

She has an amazing memory

Our parents were never taught how to declutter or throw things away- only to save and keep “just in case.”

@Camilshka 10 months ago

Welcome Roberta! You’re in safe hands, and we’re all cheering you on :D

When Roberta Said „I can cringe and still throw things away.“, that resonated so much with me. Because even if you want to reuse stuff or have spent a lot of money on something, you can still be honest to yourself and remind yourself, that you deserve space and simplicity nevertheless. 😊❤ Thanks so much for the inspiration!

April is doing a hard job helping people learn how to declutter by showing the step by step process along the way.
She's so patient and gentle.

l love that April is so helpful and calm in the declutering process

I'm a product of my mother's hoarding. Watching this has brought back a lot of anxiety. Roberta is thinking of her daughter, not leaving it for her to clean up, Roberta is taking charge with the help of beautiful calm April. Thank you so much Roberta. ❤

The little silver thing is for a slice of lemon to squeeze onto fisch

As someone who was raised by parents who were born during the Great Depression, I understand how this can happen. It has taken me years to overcome the parental programming of keeping everything "just in case". Hang in there, Roberta! We are cheering for you!

I can see that she will becone ruthless as time goes by. I think what April does so well is not pushing her clients - and then their own motivation will carry the day!

The lady mentioned something crucial halfway through the decluttering, she grew up with parents who raised her to be afraid about "throwing away" stuff or even not teaching small things like where things go (the camping-bag story). And on top of that she wants to be environmentally friendly, wants to repair things and save things that still can be useful, which is in theory of course a good goal to have, but in this case can literally overwhelm you if it means you can't throw away single-use-cutlery out of fear or guilt. I relate a lot with being raised like this. I also found this video so relatable for all the "delayed decisions" and putting it down somewhere "for later". At some point the mountain of decisions is becoming so big that you start to avoid making any, but stuff keeps coming in the house. Before you know it you have a mountain of decisions laying around that also triggers a lot of emotions. Very inspirational and helpful of someone talking about why they saved something, and why they can now let it go, and how they're going to do address a use or need in the future and with what, like travel cutlery etc.
