RUSH: Making other bands say WTF since 1974!

It's funny to see people's reaction the first time they hear this song, because all the changing tempos and styles are meant to sound like turning the radio dial. It's a very clever, very groovy song, and I've never seen anyone not like it.

What really kills is that this is a trio.  All that sound from just three guys.  In concert Geddy just reaches over and plays keyboards, sometimes while still playing his bass with his left hand.  Neal is frequently given the accolade of being the GOAT of rock drum players.  In a guitar player article they asked the question, "Is Alex Lifeson too good for rock and roll?"  Three insanely talented musicians who stayed friends and elevated rock music to a different level

"One likes to believe in the freedom of music... But glittering prizes and endless compromises shatter the illusion of integrity" Neil Peart The Professor RIP💔

An entire arena doing the hand gestures to this song live is one of THE coolest things I have every had the privilege to experience!  RIP Neil, still missing you....

Neil is the best drummer, percussionist and lyricist on the planet. But keep in mind that Geddy is singing, playing the bass and keyboards with his feet at the same time. Alex is the most underrated lead guitarist ever. These guy together are magic. I love Rush!  Is so wonderful to see see people GET Rush. This video is awesome, we’ll put together!

I'm a drummer - a seasoned one.
I can play John Bonham and Keith Moon.
I  still can't  play Neil Pert ...
Great Post!

NEIL PEART’S 10 RULES FOR SUCCESS:
1: EARN YOUR AUDIENCE
2: BE RESTLESS
3: GET OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE
4: LEARN FROM OTHERS 5: CREATE WHAT YOU LIKE
6: INFECT PEOPLE WITH YOUR FIRE
7: DON’T READ REVIEWS 8: CREATE FOR YOUR IDEAL AUDIENCE
9: FIND YOUR INSPIRATION
10: NEVER STOP EXPERIMENTING

The Spirit of Radio is like flipping through radio stations. Only Rush could pull off all these time signatures and musical styles while making it rock worthy.

Insane to think still that they can never be again.

That, my friends, is the magic of Rush!

Love seeing the younger generation see what us "old folks"  see and hear in Rush.  I was fortunate enough to see them in concert in my college years several times.  Great band, great instrumentalists, great music.

That is why they called themselves RUSH. We had the term back in the day. When you got a rush.....you were all on.....

This song alone has saved my ass a million times while being stuck in traffic going to work in the morning on my way to YYZ on the 401 or the QEW... I'd go from being a zombie to the happiest man sitting in traffic and then look around for others to see who else was playing the air drums, guitar and bass.
Best bumper to bumper traffic ever!

RUSH is THE PERFECT EXAMPLE of the fluidity of MASTERING TIME SIGNATURES! I play drums and there are a few things that you need to know about Neil Peart’s ( pronounced PEER-T) character: First he writes the lyrics so he knows in advance what TYPE of song it’s meant to be ie ballad, driver, etc. Second he COMPOSES on the drums… like a carpenter who looks at a set of blueprints before building the object. Neil lays out a SKETCH in his mind of the VOICES of the drumset and builds the song from there. He is also a great LISTENER knowing when NOT to step over Geddy’s singing or Alex’s solos! Finally, he had perfect timing and fluidity of time changes. He said himself that it’s not about COUNTING the time signatures as much as fluid motion to change the tempo without counting: in other words it should FLOW! He hates repeating the same drum patterns in the same song meaning if he plays a fill one way the first time around he will play it differently the second time around. IE. Rolls down the toms the first time around and triplets or quads (all four limbs) the second time around. In short there will NEVER be another like him on planet earth 🌍 🌏 🌎! REST IN PEACE PROFESSOR!
With heart felt admiration and sincerity!

The song is meant to be someone changing stations on an old style car radio. That’s why there’s so many musical changes. My favorite detail though is the cascading sound (at 4:13 and elsewhere) is meant to sound like quickly spinning though an old analog radio dial.

Funny to me how RUSH honors Simon & Garfunkel ,,,
"For th3 words of the prophets are
written on the subway walls ,
and echoed by the sound of silence..."
Favorite band ever  !

Rush back on tour with  female drummer Anika Nilles in 2026....and a keyboard player as well....should be cool !

I just love how everybody from all walks of life can enjoy beautiful music like this. It's like we are all united as one. The way it always should be. Music is free. And such a blessing.

Alex's guitar sounds like a tuned Porche.
