One step closer to the retrospective on the Disney planning VHS/dvds

Growing up we had a drawer full of old maps, half used ticket books (lots of extra A's) and so forth in our junk drawer.  Wonder what happened to all of it.

The "Crown Jewel" of my map collection is the 2006 50th anniversary/Pirates of the Caribbean ride retheme map that folds out into a poster. That one is so old that Galactic Grill was in it's Club Buzz era

This is the kind of video I would have sent to my retired cast member grandma. She would always grab one (or three) of these when we went in as guests. Back in the days before smart phones, these and the showtime slips were our lifeline to everything new that was happening in the park!

So nostalgic seeing these!

As a current MK cast member, let me tell you the absolute HEARTBREAK I felt the other day about TSI. I was near Diamond Horseshoe and Liberty Tree Tavern when I look across at the walls and see Big Thunder on the other side. It was odd to me, because it wasn’t something I was used to seeing. But then it hit me…it’s because that view of Big Thunder was always blocked by trees from TSI. That’s when I realized all the trees were gone 😭

Don’t forget about how they used to send full sized maps to people booking packages to stay.

The maps were so important to me as a kid that whenever I go to the park now as an adult I always grab one even if I never use it (Disney if you’re listening I use them all the time don’t get rid of them plz)

I love this video!! It's also fun to use historical imagery on Google Earth to view satellite images of Disneyland in the past. There's one from around 2003 that's surprisingly clear. (And the 2020 one shows everything empty and sad.) There's also a book called Maps of the Disney Parks, which is neat but not as much fun as having the actual maps collected from the parks.

Fun fact, for Christmas a couple years ago I told my mom I liked Disney parks maps and she accidentally bought me the Disneyland map that was in use on 9/11

My favorite obscure Disney Parks map is the 2003 DCA one for the “X Games” promotion. It strangely features Disneyland and DCA combined as one big “super park” including a very awkward drawing of DCA entirely from the backside. I had this map up for years in my childhood bedroom…and looking back at DCA’s early troubles I’ve always wondered if this was an attempt to test the waters on combing both parks together?

It is SO NICE to see someone with a TOTALLY NORMAL obsession with old park maps! Thoroughly enjoyed this.

This made me sad about MuppetVision 3D closing all over again

18:32 "this park is still very similar to how it was today" is quite the euphemism for "disneyland park in paris has gotten zero additions in 30 years and counting" :|
honestly i'm fascinated by how walt disney studios has simultaneously changed a lot yet very little. obviously avenger's campus is here but for a lot of the rest of the park, it's mostly stuff like one show replacing another and de-emphasizing the division in lands from opening day (production courtyard/toon studio/etc). a lot of small changes that still add up to more than half of the park being basically gone in one form or another, and of course once adventure way and world of frozen open that's gonna double the footprint of the park.

One of my biggest stressors when I go to the parks are the families-typically dads-that walk in to the parks, grab a paper map, and then ask “so where are we going first?” Part of me wants to stop and help them. But part of me also thinks this is like a zombie apocalypse. There’s no hope for them-I must leave them behind…

I love maps! I got my bucket list trip to Tokyo Disney last year and was devestated to find they didn't do paper maps!! </3

The parks era represented in your 2013/15 is my favorite/most nostalgic state of Disneyland.

Always been fascinated by the older guide maps from each park. Loved this video

The mad tea party was so fun. My husband and I got married in 2013 (I was 20) and we went on our honeymoon to Disneyland. We went the next few years on our anniversary too so we were there for the 60th. Such great years there! Before the mad tea party, I want to say it was a Tron themed party for when Tron came out. That was super cool too, but Mad Tea Party was definitely the best.

Hello,

I am struggling with maps from 12 years ago, just a little bit.  I first went to Disneyland in 1972.  Yes, you read that right.  It was 53 years ago.  I don’t have (at hand), a map, but I do have a much loved Winnie-the-Pooh..  😁. Thanks for posting your video.  I always enjoy your content.

Thanks for covering one of my favorite parts of going to a theme park - physical theme park maps. It's a shame Universal doesn't do these anymore, nor am I happy about Disney scrapping times guides. We have park maps and times guides going back to 1993 and beyond.
