October 4, 2025. I climbed Mt. Akita-Komagatake, which straddles Akita and Iwate prefectures. The day before, I descended Mt. Kurikoma and headed north about 150km to the trailhead at Kunimi Onsen. When I climbed last year, it was completely white and I could barely see the scenery, but this time, both the weather and the autumn leaves were perfect.
The parking lot I used this time is a climber's parking lot just before Kunimi Onsen. It is 100m from the trailhead. It can accommodate about 20 cars, but in reality, there were twice as many parked there, at 40. Parking is free. Toilets are available.
