To think that you’re at 11.1 million subscribers now and I found you when you were at 150k really is amazing. I‘m so happy for you John. You deserved it!

Not sure what exactly in Mr Ballen's voice affects my youngest (he's non verbal/non comprehensive autistic) but when he hears Mr Ballen's voice from my phone, he'll lay down next to me and play with his hands while chilling at the sound. You should do kids' stories too. I think your voice is soothing or something. Whatever it is, it chills out my youngest xD

The full audio of Beebo is beyond heartbreaking yet I listen to it every time. Fly high, Sky King🙏🏼

What's especially sad about The Sky King is if he had landed the plane, he most likely would have been institutionalized for a while and given mental treatment, it's clear he was mentally unwell and needed help. But he was just convinced there was no other way out so he took his own life. Sad story all around. I hope his family has been able to find some form of comfort and peace over the years despite this very sad event in their lives.

I live in a small town in Texas and about 5 months or so ago a sweet couple moved in to our new neighborhood across the street from us. The husband and my husband really hit it off and struck up a friendship even though my husband is 53 and the guy is in his 30’s. Come to find out, he is the traffic controller that was speaking to that man that stole that plane. The airlines made him retire early because of the stress and literal ptsd he got from that event. Sweet kid, and a really good guy. Crazy small world.

When I hear the Sky King story, I always think about a young tow truck driver that saved me, randomly and out of the blue, when my motorcycle died in a.m. rush hour traffic. I was STUCK, dead in the HOV/ motorcycle lane; standing in the 18inches between the white line and the divider, with cars whizzing by, and absolutely no way to escape. The guy that saved me looked almost exactly like Sky King Russell, he was 29 and quiet, kind. He got my bike, and me, safely home, refused money, and began a brief friendship during which I learned that he’d been diagnosed with testicular cancer. Despite family support and friends, he chose to end his life instead of fighting it. 😢 That was 2001.

Nathan’s story broke my heart, I would absolutely do the same for my younger sister. I hope all three families, especially Nathan, can get closure before they pass.

The last story made me tear up as an older sibling, as I can confirm I absolutely would've done the same as Nathen and it's devastating knowing they likely didn't survive :(

Maybe Juan was not in the truck anymore. One of the 12 stops he gets abducted while the parents get forced to deliver the heroin somewhere in order to get their son back. The father crashed the truck under stress. The woman of the following van gets the drugs out.

Shoutout to air traffic controllers! They assure the safety of thousands of people each day, and they honestly don't get enough love. I feel so bad for the air traffic controller in our story today. I'm sure he felt guilty for being unable to convince him to land the plane, but it wasn't his fault at all. 😢 the sky king knew what he was going to do before he did it... And I don't think anyone could have convinced him to come down

The story of the little boy in Spain reminds me of Central America where the drug lords would put the drugs in the buses and trucks without the driver knowing until on the road at which time they either cooperate or they get killed. I think they commandeered the truck and held the boy as hostage until the drug run and stops were picked up and delivered and why so many stops. I think the truck was speeding to make up time and the father was frantic thinking about his little boy and cause of the crash. The van was the spotter vehicle making sure he didn't go to the cops and did the route and after the crash they took the drugs out of the truck and left and the little boy was never in the truck. The old woman was the boy's caretaker and must've tried to help him after the parents died.

I would imagine between the dehydration , heat, delusional, the freighter could’ve been a mirage. Those phone calls would’ve been concerning.

I feel bad for sky king he had so much weight on his shoulders that he could no longer carry and he had no more fight left in him that he had to fight to get to the light at the end of the darkened tunnel. I hope you finally got the peace that you really needed. R.I.P Sky King God bless you.

I was made homeless in the last 2 weeks, I'm currently in a cemetery in west Yorkshire England and the 1 thing in my life I knew I could count on was Mrballen being here so using the resources limited to me I found seagull lung and the like button and got my phone charged enough to watch. Thank you from across the pond for being there Mr b. 👊

"The meek shall inherit the earth."
Nathan risked his own life to save the others and never lost faith that he would be found, they would come back for him when they missed him the first time and was willing to wait days longer, so his brother and his friends could live! 🙌 He is a living testament to how faith will see you through even the worst of times! God bless him! 🙏❤️ Nathan, you will be rewarded one day! ❤

Thank you for telling the story of The Sky King. It is one of the most heartbreaking and memorable stories I've heard and will always be one of my favourites whenever I hear it. Tears and chills every time I hear those voice clips. RIP Beebo (Richard Russel) ❤

I remember when John told little Juan's story for the first time. One thing stuck in my mind - why would any responsible father take his wife and small child on a long haul transporting 25 tonnes of Sulphuric Acid of all things ? Secondly the people in the white van were obviously drug dealers and the woman seemed to have grabbed the drugs from inside of the truck before driving away. How and why Juan's father got involved with these people ? I still haven't a clue.
